Percy POV
I am so glad that Leo's magic tool belt could produce infinite duct tape. That was basically the only thing holding he ship in one piece right now, a frick ton of duct tape. This was our solution for now since we couldn't finish repairs in the water. This wasn't because of drowning or anything like that, 3 people on this ship could breathe underwater, that wasn't even a problem. The main issue was the hundreds of small monsters surrounding our ship. This was to be expected since this was monster infected seas and our demigod scent was probably not helping. We probably looked like a slowly sinking full course meal to them. The only reason they weren't immediately swarming the ship was probabky because of Tyson's monster scent. Once they figured out that they outnumbered us 1 to 100, we would have to abandon ship. We decided that we didn't want to become monster chow and avoided going into the water. Surprisingly, we had enough materials to repair the boat, so all we needed was to set down on a random island somewhere to complete repairs. For the time being, we had to make do with the barely floating vessel that inched its way across the ocean. I had to spend hours on end dangling on the side of the ship, using my fire powers to meld the celestial bronze together, since a lot of the crew was lost during the attack. Marcus assured me that they would be fine and return to the underworld soon enough. We had about 70 skeletons left, not a lot considering hundreds of them were supposed to row the ship but we had a magic engine which worked fine. Right now, everyone was doing their own thing. Tyson was currently dangling midair on a rope, trying to patching up the remaining holes in the sails while relaying commands to Marcus, who was controlling the rope. Clarisse was doing what any self-respecting sailor would do, taking potshots at the monsters and fish swimming nearby with the cannon while yelling bloody murder. Gary was taking a nap because 'after all the hard work he had been doing, he deserved a rest'. As for me, I was trying not to get speared by an electrified harpoon. When Beckendorf realized that we were going to the sea of monsters, he built mounted weapons for our ship. With Lou's help, he built several fully automated, semi automatic harpoon launching devices. It was really cool, if not for the name Luke gave it. After winning in Rock Paper Scissors, he named the machine the Compact Underwater Murder or C.U.M for short. Besides that downside, each spear could output enough electrical energy to instantly kill a small whale and if it missed the target and landed in the water, it would zap any monsters near to it. A perfect weapon for ships, unfortunately I didn't know how to use it. It's not my fault no one put any instructions on the machine. Thus I spent the last three hours trying not to die while setting up the turrets. Out of the 30 machines built, eight were stabbed to death by me, three fell into the ocean and nine spontaneously combusted for no apparent reason. I wasn't having a good day. I was starting to wonder if it would be easier to just team up with Clarisse and blow the monsters out of the water with sheer firepower. I decided against that because I don't think our broken ship would survive being swarmed by hundreds of monsters at once. I sank down into nearby chair and watched the ocean float by, trying to relax. This didn't last very long. Not a minute went by before I felt a light tap on by back. I quickly turned around to face the daughter of Athena. I mentally groaned, I didn't know who was worse, the arguing sharks or the stuck up busybody who thought she understood everything.
"Anything I can do for you Milady?" I ask lazily.
"As a matter of fact you can. How did you change the gravity? Last I checked, being able to control the dead, fire and water doesn't give you the ability to defy the laws of physics" she asked. Ah crap, I was hoping she would forget about that... Maybe I can try making her forget that entire thing? Part of me wanted to bash her head with a ukulele but that had a low chance of success. I decided to go the easier route.
"Well you see I- AHH LOOK! A FLYING WALRUS" I scream while pointing frantically behind her. Annabeth, being the wise, logical daughter of Athena that she is, gullibly turned around. I took this chance to place my hand on her head and used the blessing of Mnemosyne to bleach her mind. This time, instead of me emitting a milky white light, I seemed to be absorbing the white light from Annabeth. After about 2 seconds, I stopped and took a step back, waiting. The daughter of Athena looked around, confusion clearly seen in her eyes. I snapped my fingers in front of her face to gain her attention.
"So what did you want to ask me" I ask with a fake annoyed tone. "Come on, I don't have all day. If its not important then don't waste my time."
"I umm. I don't really know" she said frustrated before walking off trying and failing to remember the last 5 minutes of her life.
"That was interesting to watch" Clarisse commented while sipping a mango smoothie from one of those fancy cups with a tiny umbrella and a twisty bendy straw. "What did you do, give her temporary amnesia?"
"Sort of, I took away her memory of the Leviathan fight. It would raise too many questions that I'm not willing to answer" I explained. "It's easy enough to recreate fake memories. The human brain is complex but easily influenced. I just tweeked her existing memories a bit, nothing too major."
"That might have made sense if I knew what you just said" Clarisse said, nodding.
"What I wanna know is, if you can erase someone's memory, then why the frick are you even hiding your powers? Hell, why don't we just stop time and we can just take the staff and head back home. Then at least I wouldn't have to deal with Gary's shit anymore."
"Its not the demigods I'm worried about, it's the Gods. If they feel a sudden spike in Titan power and trace that signal back to me, they're gonna blast me to pieces before I can gain back my full power. Hades and Hestia are covering for me but I don't think they could help if Zeus saw me freeze time using his dad's power. Immortals are pretty stupid, but I don't think they're that stupid" I say.
"That sounds logic enough to be true" Clarisse stated while absentmindedly dragging her spear across the deck, making some kind of abstract art.
"Could you at least try to sound interested? Even Luke pretends to pay attention when I'm ranting" I grumbled. In truth, that was all just random science babble. I didn't really understand the true capability of my powers. Hell, I learned this mind erasing thing after I saw Luke and Lou dissecting some kind of monster using a chainsaw. I needed to test these powers out more, I wonder how much I could break the laws of physics.
"Land ho!" Marcus shouted from the deck, dragging me out of my musing. I turned around and indeed, there was a small island a few hundred meters north from us.
"How long will it take to complete the repairs captain?" I ask.
"3 hours. 3 hours to fix big boat. Need more duct tape" Tyson's voice answered from the side of the ship.
"Alright then Tyson, you, Marcus and the rest of the crew stay to repair the ship. The rest of us will explore the island." I say with a smile. "Let's see if anyone's home"
