My eyes shot open. I slowly turned onto my back and sat up. All of my muscles were aching. I saw a piece of paper on my nightstand a long with a glass of water and some pills. I picked up the note, it read "Drink these, it will help with the pain. Then go help mom downstairs." I crumpled the note up and threw it inside the drawer of the nightstand. I drank the water but left the pills on the table. It might be some poison for all I know.

I pulled the blanket up off of me and sat at the edge of the bed. I slowly stood up and stumbled to the closet. I pulled out a yellow dress with some daisies on it. I slipped the dress on, putting a jumper over it. I dragged my feet to the bathroom.

I stood in front of the mirror, looking at myself. My hair hasn't been brushed in days. My eyes had large bags under them. I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair, trying to untangle some of it.

I dreaded going downstairs. I'll be walking on the same ground where the man was laying lifeless. I fought back the tears threatening to erupt and made my way slowly to the hall. I peered over the railing again and the floor was spotless. Poor Nicole probably had to clean it all up. I mean, she probably already had experience.

I saw her wiping the counter in the kitchen. I walked in and she smiled when she saw me.

"Finally up I see." She laughed

Whats with her and the laughing. I thought to myself. I don't know how much longer I can last here before I end up like her.

I nodded my head. "Yeah, It was a.. rough night."

Nicole nodded her head at me. "Don't worry about it, you get used to it. When I was first brought here I was disgusted by the murders, but soon you'll realise that they're doing all of this to protect us." She smiled at me as she continued cleaning the counter.

Clearly, she's been here a bit too long. I forced a smile on my lips and nodded. I walked over to the closet where all the cleaning things were and grabbed a mop, a broom, and a cloth. I cleaned everything as fast as I could.

"Nicole, I'll be upstairs" I started saying "Resting."

Nicole nodded her head at me. "As long as you're finished all of your chores."

I nodded at her and ran up the stairs. Now to think, where have I left to search for a key? I walked into Tom's room again, this time making sure I kept the door open to hear anyone approaching. I went into their bathroom and looked through the cabinets and in every little crack and drawer I could find. I opened one of the cupboards doors and saw a black case sitting there. I shivered remembering everything that happened yesterday.

I closed everything and ran out of the room before anyone saw me. I checked every room in the whole house and I couldn't find anything. I tip toed downstairs and saw Nicole knitting something in the living room. I quickly rushed past her and into the kitchen where the back door was.

I stood on my toes to see through the window in the door. There was a porch with a table and a few chairs and a load of fields. I squinted my eyes and I could see Noah and Tom working away to themselves. "Brooke?"

I jumped up and turned around to see Nicole standing in front of me. "You scared me!" I nearly shouted while breathing heavily.

"What were you doing?" She asked me.

"Can I not look through the window?"

She furrowed her eyebrows at me and walked away back into the living room. I saw that it was getting dark so me and Nicole started working away on dinner. I cooked the meat while she worked on the potatoes and vegetables.

We set everything out by the time the guys walked in. I sat down and played with the sleeve of my jumper. Noah went upstairs and came down in 2 minutes, sitting down beside me. He smiled at me and put his hand on my thigh. I pushed it away, giving him a disgusted look. He glanced at me with hurt eyes then started putting food onto his plate.

"How did you sleep, Brooke?" Tom asked me with a chuckle.

"I don't know, what do you think?" I spat at him.

Tom slapped his hand on the table.

"Dad." Noah looked at Tom.

I didn't eat at all that night. After dinner I cleared away the table as usual and then Noah dragged us into our room again. He handed me the same pair of pajamas again and I ran into the bathroom changing into them. I came out and Noah looked up at me then walked towards me. I made my way around him and left the room, going to the living room. I grabbed the Hunger Games book and sat down on the couch and started reading from where I left off on.

I heard the stairs thudding as Noah ran down the stairs. He was calling my name but I just ignored him, reading my book. He calmed down when he saw that I was on the couch. He walked over to me and sat down beside me, putting his hand around my shoulder. He started stroking my hair.

"Stop." I told him. He looked shocked at my words.

"Why so snappy?" He asked me.

I closed the book shut. "Oh, let me think for a moment. Your dad kidnapped me, I'm kept here against my own will and you guys kill people. Your whole family is psychotic. It can't get worse than that now I don't think. So stop calling me snappy and jumpy when I clearly don't want your hands all over me every time you see me!" I shouted at him.

He had had enough with me and pulled me by the arm.

"Here we go again." I said sarcastically.

I saw him shake his head and he dragged me into our room, me struggling to keep up. He shoved me in and closed the door.

"Will you ever just stop and think about the things we do for you? we're trying to keep you safe and this is how you thank me, by shouting at me and calling my family psychotic?" He yelled back at me.

"You're "protecting" me?! Yeah, because I absolutely love it here." I spat at him. I stared at him for a good few minutes before he went into the bathroom and came back with the black case again. He took out the syringe. My eyes widened in fear.

I shook my head and backed up all the way until I hit the wall. He came closer to me and I felt tears streaming down my cheeks.

"It won't hurt, It's only to help you sleep." He said as he grabbed my arm out and stabbed the needle into my arm. My vision went blurry straight away and I started getting dizzy. He picked me up and carried me to the bed.

"Good night." He said as he pressed his lips against my forehead.

That's when everything went black once again.
