"Please pick up. Please pick up," Fay chanted.

Neither Seth nor Shawn would pick up their phones. Fay didn't know what to do. Elise would slip through their fingers. Something needed to be done, but no matter how many times she tried to call the brothers, it always went to their voicemails.

"Shit!" she cried out and tossed the phone on her bed. "What should I do?"

Low couldn't stay on Elise's tail for long. Elise would notice her. Though Low was good, she was only a human. Fay had begged her to be careful. To her surprise, she heard excitement in Low's voice although she had had to experience the wrath of a male werewolf, Shawn Cage, not that long ago. It must have been a traumatic experience for the petite human girl. Low had only laughed at her worry. "I know what I'm doing, Fay. I live for this shit," she had shrugged.

But Fay couldn't help but worry. She didn't know what Elise would do to Low if she noticed her. And the ravens! Low had been laying low since the She Wolf Pack left the city, but now that she was wandering the streets again, they might do something to her.

Fay did the only thing she could've done. And no, it wasn't telling someone or waiting for Seth or Shawn to answer her calls. She called a taxi and headed to the closest airport. Wolf or not, she was a protector.

Luck was on her side, there was room on the flight and she purchased a ticket to JFK. Before boarding, she left a message on Seth's voicemail.

Seth shook hands with the Alpha of the small but crucial pack in Illinois. They were now on Seth's side and would work alongside him to keep Finnigan in the West where he belonged. He was anxious to get back home or at least somewhere where there was a signal. He hoped Shawn would have some news.

"Thank you, Richard. We'll be in touch," he said to the Alpha who was at least 20 years his senior.

"Thank you for coming in person," the Alpha spoke. "I never do business on the phone."

"I'll keep that in mind," Seth gave him a polite smile, though he was annoyed. He had had to waste time when a simple video call would've worked just fine. With a polite goodbye, he stepped into his rental car and started driving to Springfield. Seth kept glancing at his phone, but it took several miles before there was a signal again. Shawn had sent him a text.

"Nothing," Shawn read. He couldn't help but snort. His brother was a man of few words.

Then he checked his voicemail. He nearly drove off the road when he heard Fay's voice.

"It's me. Your mother is in New York! I'm going there. I hope you'll get this soon. I'm boarding now. Bye."

Seth had been controlling his emotions for days, but now he let out a growl and hit the stirring wheel. He dialed Fay's number, but she had switched it off. She was probably still on the plane. Impatiently he waited for the Beeb.

"Fay! When you land, call me immediately! DO NOT leave the airport!"

What the hell was she thinking! Seth raged in his mind. She should've waited for him, no matter what.

Fay was caught between a rock and a hard place. She had just listened to Seth's angry message and read Low's text. She had managed to follow Elise unnoticed. Elise had entered an office building on 41th street. Low couldn't follow her in, because it was not just any office building. It was a raven's nest

Fay stared at her phone. If she'd call Seth, he'd tell her to wait for him. But it could be too late! Even now it could be too late. What could've Elise possible accomplish by walking into that place? There was nothing but pain and death there. Like the kettle, Fay thought. She couldn't let her die in the hands of the ravens without trying to stop it.

She hesitated before putting the phone away. Maybe she should've called Seth and let him know she was going against his command. But she decided not to call. He might make her change her mind. No! Elise needed her. She could not risk facing the Alpha power now.

Fay decided to take a subway, hoping it would take her there faster than a taxi. Besides, Ravens lost their powers underground. She could get as close as possible without running into one.

It felt strange being in New York again. Not that long ago it had been her home. Now Fay felt like an outsider, though now she actually was a human among all those people and not a werewolf. The subway car started to sway from side to side and the tracks squealed. Under the East River, Fay noticed her hands were shaking. She tried to calm herself by taking deep breaths. When they stopped at the first Manhattan station, she nearly got off. This was insane. What could she do? She was just a human.

Her stubborn mind kept her sitting. The doors closed. Few more stops.
