Nicki POV

I woke up in the middle of the night hearing somebody crying I got out of bed and followed the sound it led me to my parents' bedroom I wanted to knock but then I turned around and went back to my bedroom I got back in bed and closed my eyes something kept saying go check what's happening I got outta bed again and went over I knocked on the door the cries stopped

"Mommy is everything okay?" I asked standing outside

I didn't get a response I knocked again it was dead silence I opened the door and my mom was sitting on the bed crying

"Momma what's wrong?" I asked

"Your dad is in jail" she said

"What? How did that happen?" I asked

"I don't know but it was your boyfriend who arrested him" she said wiping her tears

"Meek? That's impossible he doesn't have the right information about dad how can he arrest him?" I asked

"I don't know" she said

The last time my dad got arrested I was in 4th grade I'm really confused on how I mean Meek's a great police officer and he's smart too but how can this happen within a blink of an eye he said my dad just disappeared into thin air

"What are we gonna do?" I asked

"Don't worry, just go back to bed and I'll fix everything" she said

I nodded and went back to bed I couldn't sleep I laid there starring at the ceiling

Did Meek really do this or did they call him for backup?

Meek's not a bad guy and he'll never lie to me so maybe he was helping one of his colleagues

"Nika I want peanuts" Nina said

"You can't have peanuts babygirl you gotta eat cereal" I said

"I don't want cereal it makes me sick" she said

"I ain't mom I'm not falling for your tricks, here's your cereal, eat it and finish it" I said

She took her small bowl and started eating

I went to JoJo's room and he was tying his shoes

"Let's go have breakfast" I said

He gave me his bag and led the way I followed behind him and gave him his cereal they both ate the driver honked the bell outside I gave them their bags and kissed their foreheads

"Y'all better behave" I said

"I will" JoJo said I smiled at him

"I'll try my best" Nina said

I laughed

"Please do behave" I said

They left I went to my mom's bedroom and she was getting dressed

"Where you goin'?" I asked

"To the court" she said

"Can I go with you?" I asked

"No, what if Meek is there and he'll start suspecting"

"Okay ma, be safe" I hugged her and she kissed me

"Don't worry baby, I'll be okay" she said

She looked at herself in the mirror one more time and left

I shouldn't have sent my siblings to school now I'm bored

I was out with Nicole for ice cream we were walking slow and joking around
