~age 21~
Ebony returned from yet another 'grocery run' and was greeted happily by the six orphans residing in the home. The youngest girls, Ellis and Billie, took the groceries to put them away, earning a 'thank you' and a grateful smile from Ebony. "Tommy is in his room, he wanted to see you," Sister Josephine said before following the girls into the kitchen. Ebony nodded her thanks and made her way to the 11 year old boy's room. "Ebony! I think I did it! I made an arrow with the same affect as a tranq gun!" Tommy said excitedly, not looking away from his creation yet. "Really?! Let me see!" Ebony said excitedly as she approached him. He turned quickly with the arrow, cutting her right eye. She yelped in pain and stumbled back, holding her bleeding eye. Sister Josephine and the other orphans heard it and rushed in. Sister Josephine shooed them away, not wanting them to be traumatized. "I'm so sorry!" Tommy blurted, crouching down to Ebony's bleeding form. "It's fine, I don't think it actually hit my eye, just the eyelid. I just need some disinfectants and a bandage," Ebony said, keeping her hand over her injury. "But what if you go blind? What if you can never shoot your bow again? What if we all starve? And it's all my fault," Tommy whimpered. "Hey, I won't go blind, and even if I do, I'll find a way to feed you guys. It was an accident, it would be wrong to blame you," Ebony hummed, placing her unoccupied hand on his shoulder. Tommy nodded. Sister Josephine came back with all the necessary supplies and started treating Ebony's eye. "Thank you Sister," Ebony murmured once Sister Josephine had finished. "Might want to keep working on the serum, I'm not unconscious," Ebony said with a grin, hoping to pull Tommy out of his guilty state. Tommy grinned and went to do just that.
~2 months later~
Ebony was finally able to take off the bandage. Her right eye had a scar running through it and it had turned cloudy blue. She didn't lose her sight though. The orphans thought it looked super cool, calling her a superhero. She'd always smile and laugh along with them. She'd promised she'd never get close to someone again, but she loved Sister Josephine and these orphans. She truly felt like a hero to these kids. She couldn't imagine life any other way (except maybe getting Peter and Alice back), but that could change when Miss Pauling makes a return.
