This is a Sea Wraith. They're just like a typical Sea Hag except their claws are tipped in venom.
A few hours later, the people of E'egroth were now moving slowly through the trees of the forest. A number of beasts trudged along with the crowd.
They had no name, they were just huge, hairy creatures that were large enough to carry five passengers. They had poor eyesight and two curved tusks like a boar. They plodded along on cloven hooves and could carry extreme weights.
Beo followed behind the crowd, helping to carry the wounded. Every able-bodied soldier marched along the outskirts of the crowd while the Beasts trudged along wherever they found themselves, carrying children and supplies.
Fa-Lin and Iro walked alongside each other. Fa-Lin's younger sister, Thalia, stuck close to her brother. She was just a decade younger so there wasn't much difference in their height save for a couple of inches.
Iro leaned closer to Fa-Lin and whispered in his ear, "We're moving too slowly. The Wraiths could catch up to us in a few hours."
Fa-Lin nodded. "I know. But there's nothing we can do."
Iro thought for a moment, "What if I took a few soldiers to make sure we're no being followed?"
While the thought pained him, Fa-Lin nodded. But he caught Iro's arm before he left and looked him in the eye, "If you don't come back...I swear that I'll never forgive you."
Iro looked Fa-Lin in the eye for a second. Then he pulled him in close and the lips touched. When Iro broke off, he gave a small smile, "If you come back to help then I'll never forgive you."
Then he left and Fa-Lin could hear him issuing orders to some of the soldiers. Then they left, heading back in the direction of E'egroth, leaving Fa-Lin with the rest of the soldiers to protect everyone. Beo moved up to where Fa-Lin was and nudged him with his snout.
And suddenly, everything was quiet without Iro next to him.
*******
It was night and the crowd was resting for a few hours when Fa-Lin heard the sounds of fighting and screams of pain.
"Get up!" Fa-Lin shouted to the confused crowd of elves. "Get moving. Just keep heading north-west! Get out of here! I want a group of soldiers to stay and protect the people. Keep on driving the herd of beasts with you, they'll help keep people warm!"
Just before he left, he took off the scale charm that Iro gave him long ago. Pressing it into Thalia's hand he told her, "Don't follow me." Then he took some soldiers with him to find Iro.
