Season Two, Episode One
"You think I could borrow ya tonight?" Renzuli called through the precinct line at the 5-4. I considered it for a moment, Danny and I had a lead, a young girl that was with the Farragaut man the night he died. He could handle whatever came in over the next few nights.
"What can I help you with Sargent?"
"Great. I got Rookies from my squad doing there first undercover, but I got an odd number." His Brooklyn accent sticks through, and I nod a bit, "You alright to stick with one of them tonight?"
"Yes Sarge, I am on my way." He said thanks one more time, before hanging up. I flipped my wrist, checking the time before standing.
"Where you going?" Danny asked, I turned, pulling my jacket off as I faced him.
"Renzuli asked a favor, I'm heading to the 12th." I pat my pockets after I pull it on, before looking over at Kenai. "You think you can handle a few hours without me?" Danny snorted, before telling me he'd be fine.
"Leave the dog, I'll take her home tonight." I thought about it for a moment, starting to say no when he interrupted me. "The kids love her, I'll keep an eye on her for the night." I nodded, before pulling her leash out of my pocket and passing it over.
"Thanks Danny."
"No problem." I grabbed my firearm from the bottom drawer, pausing briefly to clip it into my holster before telling the two of them goodbye. My motorcycle is parked in the back, and I pulled my helmet on once I reached it, swinging my leg over the bike and starting her up. My bike came to life, and I was off onto the motorway. The 12th was a bit of a ways away, but I really didn't mind.
I had found information on the Sanfino fellow, turns out his father is a notable member of the Cavazerre family, and for once I was glad to not have given my name. Why the man I met yesterday had a clean slate, it is believed that he is a part of it in some way. I told Danny about my encounter, and he recognized the man's name instantly. I learned just a bit more about the Cavazerre family from Danny than I did from the database, and he told me to be careful if I ever bumped into him again. I wasn't planning on it, and in a city this big the odds are small.
The twelfth precinct looks just as same as any of the others, short to the ground, and brimming with officers. I pulled into the front car park, as I did not work out of this precinct, it would be wrong of me to take a spot around the back. I came to a slow stop, taking advantage of the only motorcycle spot in the entire car park. Once I turned the engine off I climbed off, removing my helmet as I went, but keeping a firm grasp of it in my right hand as I walked into the precinct.
I walked to the front desk, pulling my shield from my pocket to show the officer behind the desk. "I'm here to see Sargent Renzuli?" I phrased it as a question, and the officer nodded me back, "Thank you."
I dodged a few officers as I went, scanning the crowds for any sight of the small stature man. I caught sight of a few plain clothed officers heading in a certain direction, and I followed them, assuming that they were the Rookies that I'd be joining.
"Detective Inspector." Renzuli's Brooklyn accent came from the right, and I turned, switching the hands my helmet was in and reaching out to shake his hand. "Thanks for doin' this for me, I owe you one."
"It's really no big deal Sargent." I assured him, letting him lead the way to the Rookies. I stepped into the room after Renzuli, unconsciously ducking my head as I went in, though I had no fear of smacking my head into the frame at this time, it has happened before.
"This is Detective Inspector Howards," Sargent Renzuli motioned to me as he spoke. "He'll be pairing up with you Atwater. Same as the last few nights, observe and report, blend in, any questions? No, good." I couldn't help but snort at the fact that Renzuli didn't give them a chance to ask questions. He collected his papers, before stepping back towards me. An officer walked up, offering his hand to me and introducing himself as Atwater. I said a quick goodbye to Renzuli, before following the Officer Atwater out.
I was not expecting to see him, but as I walked out Jameson was standing there, looking quite smart in his uniform. I changed my path just a bit, swaying a bit closer to him and grazing his hand with mine. He gripped it for a moment, and I could see the smile on his lips, before we both went our separate ways.
Atwater shared the address with me as we walked out. I was glad to hear that it was only a few blocks from here, and I said goodbye to the man as I started on a walk to the place. For a moment the man criticized the fact that I was walking, before shrugging and following suit. He informed me that he would wait a few minutes before walking inside, and I nodded before walking in.
The next few hours went by quickly, and strangely enough I had another encounter with the Sanfino fellow. Noble Sanfino reintroduced himself, and I picked a false name to give him Alvie Jones. Sanfino was rather insistent on buying me a drink, and when I finally accepted, he asked if he could help me 'get in the mood easier' before rubbing his nose. A not-so-subtle way of sharing that he was going to buy drugs and asking if I'd like to do it with him. The mood that he was referring too could only mean one thing, and I was rather not interested, before he left me at the bar, he pointed out the fact that Atwater was a cop.
I watched Sanfino go, before turning back to nursing my terrible cold beer and making a mental note to have a word with Renzuli about training his Rookie's at being undercover in a better way. I couldn't help but think about Jameson, the day had turned to Friday, and I hadn't spent time with him, save an hour here and there, since Sunday, and I was missing him more and more as the days went. He informed me earlier today that he was hoping to be on a more normal tour starting next week, and I was more than ready for it.
A hand landed on my shoulder, and when I turned I noticed a very underage girl, "Bet you I can guess where you went to college." I snorted, and shook my head. Another girl appeared on my other side, insisting that the other girl could do it, and if she did I'd buy them drinks. I took to not responding. "Berkley?" I shook my head, "Kingsborough?" I shook my head again, smiling a bit as I sipped the beer. "I've got it! Marymount!"
"No love, I went to Cambridge." I made sure to speak loud enough for my accent to come through, and the girl groaned loudly.
"Buy me a drink anyways." She laid her hand on my shoulder, propping her head on it, and I turned to her.
"You're not my type." She attempted to convince me that she was anyone's type, but I interrupted her. "I'm gay, and you're underage."
The girl suddenly looked very embarrassed, before hurrying away. I felt a heavier hand on my shoulder, and for a moment I believed that it was another one of her friends, but I turned to find Noble Sanfino high of his mind and blood pouring from his nose. I turned catching him as he started to fall. I shouted for the bar owner to call the police, but he told me to get the man the hell out of here. I didn't need to be asked twice, I threw his arm over my shoulder, practically carrying the man out of the building and shoving him onto a bench. I pulled my phone out, dialing quickly and turning away from Sanfino.
"This is Detective Inspector Howards I need a bus to my location, and put a rush on it. I have a suspected drug overdose." Once receiving confirmation, I hung up, turning the man over and propping him up so that there would be no risk of him swallowing his own tongue.
Just as I asked the bus was here in a flash, and I helped them load the man in. I watched the bus disappear around the corner, before pulling my phone out once again and starting to make the appropriate calls. This pub, or rather, bar, would not be continued to stay open, and Renzuli fully agreed, sending units my way.
