Jimin's eyes burned amber as he lunged at Sarah. I jumped between them and managed to wrestle Jimin to the floor, catching him from behind and locking him in a choke hold. Thank you, older brothers!

"What the hell are you?!" Yoongi growled, standing from his chair and beginning to slowly circle around the couch in an arch toward the front door. I wasn't sure if he was planning to make a break for it, or block the exit.

Sarah remained remarkably calm.

I was struggling to keep Jimin from attacking her. I wrapped my legs around his torso from my position behind him and leaned back against the floor.

"Talk!" I yelped as Jimin thrashed. I could hear his bones snapping. He was starting to turn.

"My mom is a hybrid. My dad is human," Sarah began while keeping an eye on Yoongi. "Human-hybrid relationships are frowned upon, and if a baby is conceived, both parties are executed. But not always. Sometimes it's only one parent. Or it doesn't happen until the baby is born. Or the hybrid parent just abandons the kid."

Jimin's transformation halted, and he seemed to be listening. Or he was losing oxygen and on the brink of passing out or dying. I loosened my grip on his neck slightly just to be safe.

"I think the whole Hunter name came about because some kids didn't grow up in the greatest situations and sought revenge against pure-bloods. Mostly revenge murders. People going after their hybrid parent that abandoned them, or going after those who had killed human-hybrid couples after the baby was born."

Sarah glanced down at me where I had Jimin ensnared and restrained on the floor.

"Can you let him go? It's getting weird."

I nodded and released Jimin, pushing him off to the side.

"Judging by your expressions, I'm guessing what I've told you is a shock," Sarah continued. "So, what? You're all from powerful families, right? The upper crust of the hybrid world? Top tier? Future Council members?"

"Perhaps," Yoongi said. He was standing between Sarah and the door. His body posture slightly more relaxed.

I sat up from my position on the floor. Jimin wheezed next to me, "Do you do MMA? Why are you so strong?"

"Jujitsu." I patted him on the shoulder.

"The Council views half-breeds as abominations, and that's part of why the fear of Hunters is instilled early on in pure-blood children."

"No better way to maintain your position of power," Yoongi chuckled darkly. "Keep those beneath you in a constant state of fear."

"And keep them separated," Sarah added.

Yoongi nodded and made his way back to his seat.

What Sarah had said made sense. It was the opposite of everything I was ever told, but it made sense.

Pulling Jimin with me, I crawled back onto the couch, sitting myself between him and Sarah.

A thought struck me. Maybe Jimin's family members who believed he had taken a hit out on JiHoon weren't completely wrong?

"What if," I began quietly. "What if someone did place a hit on JiHoon?"

Jimin slipped his hand into mine, instantly gaining my attention. I noted his furrowed brow and had to resist the urge to reach out and caress his cheek. His deep brown eyes boring into mine. "What do you mean?" His voice was slightly raspy, likely caused by the choke hold.

"Wasn't he dating a human instead of looking for his missing fiance? A daughter of a Council member."

I searched Jimin's eyes in hopes of reading his reaction, but they betrayed nothing.

"Maybe that put a target on his back? Maybe someone wanted to make an example out of him?"
