Beach Party

The party was very crowded, even more than the last party. Probably most every teenager in town was here tonight. However, there was one person who annoyingly stood out above all the rest. I'll give you three guesses who.

"Is he still back there?" I mumbled to Chanel as we both stood by the keg pouring our drinks with our backs turned towards Phoenix.

She not so subtly looked over her shoulder in his general direction, before turning her attention back to me. "Yes. Still staring at you, too." She playfully nudged my elbow with hers before I shot her a look that wiped the smile off her face as quickly as it came.

"Whatever. Tonight, he doesn't exist to me." I tried sounding casual as I handed her a drink before retrieving my own. She looked skeptical, obviously seeing past my 'I don't care' attitude. I made a mental note to never play poker, because apparently I was a freaking open book.

Despite a voice in my head telling me to not look, I found myself sneaking peeks in Phoenix's direction.

God, why did he have to be so fine? Everything about him said he knew it, too. He stood there in his leather jacket, ripped jeans, sexy hair and wildly intense eyes staring at me with an irritatingly perfect grin.

We briefly made eye contact and he winked at me, blowing me a kiss. I hid my flushed cheeks behind my hair and the red plastic cup I was drinking out of.

Chanel was exchanging glances between the two of us with a knowing smirk, but I spoke before she had a chance to comment on the obvious sexual tension.

"So this being a small town and everything, I'm going to assume you actually know people here?" I glanced around the sea of strangers as I sipped on my drink, pretending I was actually interested in anyone besides you-know-who.

"You mean besides Phoenix?" Her tone was teasing and her grin lit up her entire face. I narrowed my eyes at her, knowing she knew exactly what I meant. "Yeah, you could say that. I know the majority of the people here, technically." She looked around the crowd as if surveying who was all here.

I took a deep breath, as I prepared myself to ask something I wasn't necessarily interested in doing. But I was desperate to get away from those dark, bedroom eyes of his. "Well, what do you say we make our rounds? I feel weird not really knowing anyone here."

She seemed surprised I actually wanted to mingle but after thinking about it for a moment, excitedly agreed. "Good idea! Let's find someone for you to get your flirt on with." She winked before motioning in Phoenix's direction and then gestured for me to follow her.

I had to roll my eyes, annoyed she hadn't forgotten about her 'make him jealous' plan. But I did as I was told and trailed after her. I could feel Phoenix's eyes follow me as I did everything to not let myself look back.
