ELAINE GALLAGHER is not exceptionally daring ( like Blake ) or clever ( like Milo ). Nor is she just absolutely exceptional in everything ( like Cedric ). But she is exceptionally kind and, most of all, exceptionally loyal. Elaine would follow Cedric Diggory to the ends of the Earth ( maybe even farther ), and she would do anything ( literally, anything ) to make him happy.

After pining for her oblivious best friend ( and being teased for it by their other friends ) for their first five years at Hogwarts, Elaine finally takes Blake's advice and decides it's high time to do anything ( literally, anything ) she can for herself and her own happiness. And that means telling Cedric just how deeply she cares for him ( endlessly, endlessly ), as more than just a friend. Even if, at first, she depends on cheesy secret admirer letters and avidly denies that she was, in fact, the one who sent them. ( But just until she gets her confidence up, of course! )

She does kind of feel bad about expressing her feelings, given that Cedric ends up with even more to worry about in addition to being a Triwizard Champion and all. ( Imagine trying to figure out your love life while also trying to figure out how to survive three deadly challenges. ) But, the heart wants what the heart wants, and Elaine has ignored hers for far too long.
