Kage's P.O.V.

Well, that was an eventful night...

I looked over to see Erika asleep, her head resting on my arm. I had to take her back to her room but for now, I just wanted to bask at this moment a little longer.

When she started to stir, I moved my arm slowly and started to put my shirt back on. I glanced over to see her yawn and rub her eyes.

"I'm still tired." She whined while grabbing my hoodie and throwing it on. As I turned around, she hugged me, jumping up and wrapping her legs around me. I quickly grabbed her and smiled as she rested her head on my shoulder.

"Can I just go to your room and sleep?" I shook my head.

"Tomorrow night."

"But whyyy?" she pouted.

"Don't do that. You cant spend every night in my room or else they will try to separate us again." I explained as I put her down and moved the boxes back to conceal the bed once more until next time. I tried walking up the stairs but she stopped me by grabbing my arm.

"What?"

"Kage, do you really expect me to walk up those stairs?" She asked, rubbing her eyes tiredly. I laughed and let her get on my back.

"I love you.." I said, smiling and walking up the stairs.

--

After I walked Erika to her room and went back to mine for the rest of the night, I fell on my bed and stared at the ceiling. I still don't really know what happened to her and as much as I want to, I'm not going to question her about it because that'll only make it worse.

There are cameras everywhere so the security guards know we went to the basement, they just won't ask any questions because they know me all too well.

Even considering what almost happened tonight, I still heard that little voice in my head that continuously reminded me of Jess. I remember Ms.Miller's words after I told her about it...

"Kage I will do my absolute best to get her fired and banned from working in medical centers but it will take some time."

"Please, Katherine... Erika can't find out about this. It will break her heart."

"I understand but something like this can't be easily done. I will need to get the authorities involved."

She was right when she said it would take a while for anything to happen and as much as I wanted Jess fired, there is nothing else I can do until I get questioned.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard guards banging on the doors in the girl's ward. It was a bit odd but it was still pretty normal considering when the nurses leave, they put the guards in charge of doing checks and they can be too harsh. Then the intercom cut on.

"The girl's ward is temporarily closed for maintenance. Girls, please make your way to the activity ward where cots are available."

Shit... something must be really wrong for them to have to evacuate that whole area and make the girls sleep in the activity ward.

Erika's P.O.V.

I was sleeping soundly in my bed when someone banged on my door and just ended up busting it open anyway.

"To the hall." the guard said, basically ripping me out of my bed and pushing me into the hallway with the other girls. Ms.Hardass's voice came on over the intercom.

"The girl's ward is temporarily closed for maintenance. Girls, please make your way to the activity ward where cots are available."

I rolled my eyes and walked behind the others to the activity ward, it was cold and I just wanted to sleep.

When we got to the activity ward, there were two cots for three people. Since I was the oldest, I decided to just take the couch.

The blankets they provided us with were thin pieces of flat sheets. I was freezing my ass off, to say the least.

After a few minutes of trying to find a way to get warm, I finally fell asleep, waking up periodically throughout the night of course.

--

I was awoken to the sound of a bullhorn cutting on and someone screaming into it.

"All girls be dressed and the cots will be put away within 10 minutes!" Mrs.Hardass yelled. I groaned and got up, folding the sheet and set it down on the couch. I went over to help Maddie fold up her cot.

"What are you doing?" One of the guards asked, getting in my face.

"Putting up the cots," I said, my expression staying annoyed and pissed.

"Go get dressed."

"I am dressed dumbass. I only have one set of clothes." He gripped my arm tightly and pulled me over to the nurse's section. Before he could even speak, six nurses stood up and stared at him.

"What happened?" Ms.Miller asked. She glanced at me, my expression of nothingness only made her terror worse.

"She is disrespecting me." He stated, tightening his grip on my arm.

"That's Erika Daniels. Remember what we told you." She said. Suddenly, he let go and took a step back.

"I'm so sorry, Miss. I had no idea; this is only my second day." I just nodded and looked at the nurses.

"Can I get a heat pack before my arm starts to bruise?"

"Of course, come around here and I'll get you one. You can go back to work now, Spier." Ms.Miller said.  I walked around and she took me to the lounge since it was empty.

I sat down and she got me a sweater to change into, handing me a water bottle to drink as well while she tried to find the heating pad.

"So what's going on?" she sighed and glanced at me for a moment.

"They are putting more locks on the doors and cameras in the rooms, which is a good and bad thing."

"What? But isn't that like an invasion of privacy?"

"It's a good thing because we can catch all the slutty nurses but... it's a bad thing because it means you and Kage can't sneak off anymore." I groaned and looked at the wall.

"Why does it matter? Everyone is terrified of Kage."

"Not some of the new guards; a few of them actually listen to us... like Spier." She explained, plugging in the heat pad and wrapping a towel around it. She placed the pad on my harm to hopefully help my skin not bruise as bad.

"Please don't test the new guards... Mrs.Banks hired them and they will hurt you and Kage, do you understand?" She kneeled down in front of me, staring me in the eyes. I nodded, a little confused.

"Just hold off until I can figure something out, okay?" She added. I nodded once again and was left speechless. She was so serious and concerned for me and Kage.

"Oh and please don't tell Kage about Spier, we will have a talk him so we don't need him almost killing another guard." She said in more of a joking tone.

I laughed a little bit and broke into a small smile...
