Melanie POV
it's been a week since I've seen my father.
I say that because he hasn't been to my room in the middle of the night to hit me like he regularly does.
Nana Mary and I were making dinner.
I've learned to to cook thanks to her. She's taught me so many things.
As I was cooking her started talking and said:
"My child it's not good to be stuck here in this house all day. Why don't you go out? Or maybe start dating again?"
"Nana, I'm afraid you know what happened to my first and last boyfriend I had. My father found out right after a week, we were dating and he sent someone to hit him. Hector, was found badly beaten near a river. It took him several months to recover in the hospital."
I haven't seen Hector in years. I've missed him. Hector and I talked for months until he finally asked me to be his girlfriend. Sadly my father found out. I tried contacting Hector to apologize, but I guess he's moved on.
I received a letter two weeks after the accident from him indicating how much he hated me. That he also wished he never met me.
"Yes, I know; but you have to live and not just here are your house listening to my old stories when I was a teenager or cooking everything for me."
"Nana I enjoy your company and your silly stories when you were a teen. I told her.
"Honey, go out we haven't seen your father in a week."
"How about we go to a café in the morning or maybe an ice cream after we go for our groceries."
"No Nana, I'm just afraid if we go anywhere and if father finds out -He'll probably do something to me my bruises are barely somewhat healing."
"Come on, my dear. Let go out tomorrow, I promise we won't take that long."
Just as Nana said that my father came in
"Where the hell do both of you think of going tomorrow!!"
"Father, Nana and I just thought of going to get ice cream after doing the grocery shopping."
I didn't want my nana getting hurt by my father. So, I got in front of her.
"Your worthless girl. I've told you many time you don't deserve to have fun after you took your mother away from me, you deserve to stay here until you die."
He slapped me three times and left to his room.
This time he wasn't drunk.
"My dear, I'm sorry I should of just shut my mouth. I didn't hear him come in otherwise I would have shut up."
"It's fine Nana, I'm already used to it."

The next morning I woke up to some knocks and next poundings on my door.
It was five in the morning as I looked up to my clock near my bed stand.
I got up and open the door. And, just I opened the door a felt a cold pair of hands on my neck.
"How many times have I told you I hate it when you lock the damn door you worthless whore."
Tears started running down my face.
"Please father I promise, I won't do it again."
"Of course you won't cause your not going to be living here anymore."
"Father please, I beg don't separate me from Nana Mary."
"I've found you a husband, so he can make your life as miserable as I have ever since you were born. Hopefully you die."
"Father, please I promise all do everything you say, but please I don't want to get married."
He pulled my hair and said next to my ear
"Your doing what I say, your whore and you better obey him."
"You better be ready and have dinner ready at 6pm he'll be joining us tonight."
He closed the door and within minutes he came back.
"Make sure you cover all those dam bruises or where something to cover your self up."
My whole body felt really weak, I couldn't believe what he had just said.
I went to Nana Mary's room and told her what had happened with my father and the marriage.
"Oh my Melanie, I'm so sorry. I wish I could've taken you several years ago with me, but I don't have any relationship with my daughter, Mariann.
"I know Nana, I just wished this was all a nightmare."
"Let's just wish that man isn't like your father and hope he treats you like your deserve. Don't worry my child, I'll talk to him if I can work at his house; just to stay with you."
"I love you Nana, thank you for all you do."
