A/N This chapter, instead of being told by Gordie, it's Chris' POV

Chris POV

Since we lost the flip, I and Adelaide had to walk to the store. I was still sorta ticked that she flipped the coin because once you flip, you can't back out. So we were walking silently down to the store, when suddenly the silence was broken by her saying,

"Look, Chris, I'm sorry that I flipped the f*cking coin. But I'm okay, my ankle doesn't hurt as bad as it used to, you don't have to look out for me Goddamnit."

I looked at her like she was crazy and said,

"You feel outta a tree Dolly because you were too stubborn to let me help you. Had you know that someone was there to catch you, you wouldn't f*cked up your ankle in the first place"

She pushed herself off of me and retaliated with,

"Okay, so I feel outta a good damn tree and f*cked my ankle. You don't have to worry about me."

"That's bullsh*t!"

I hollered,

"You take on everyone's problems, neglecting your own health. If you are really scared of getting breast cancer, you neglecting your personal health isn't helping."

I registered what I had just said and immediately regretted it. She turned around and slapped me across the face and was about to go for another hit, but I grabbed her before she could. She started hollering at me,

"You absolute hypocrite! You have no god damn right to say what you just said. You almost got hit by a train just so Teddy wouldn't kill himself. You ran in front of a bus because Vern was about to get hit. You stayed up every night with Gordie after Denny died, just to help with the nightmares-"

I cut her off, saying,

"Yeah, but staying up all night for a month wasn't just me, it was you too."

That comment didn't bode well with her as she said,

"Okay yeah, I did, but you can't tell what's wrong with me when you do the same thing. You aren't just another Chambers kid, you are Chris, you have an amazing brain and heart, but you choose to ignore those and you let your family name prevent you from being more than it. Your not like your family, you care about other people, and put them before you."

"Okay, but you have an incredibly beautiful in everything you do. You don't think so, but I know so."

Immediately after I said that I took her arm, which I was still holding, and I slowly took her into my arms. She started sobbing, so I picked her bridal style and walked liked that all the way to Quidachioluo's. By the time we reached the shop, she had stopped crying and was walking alongside me. We walked into the shop and headed toward the back towards the pop. She grabbed two bottles of pop and I grabbed three. We dropped them on the counter, and when we went to grab the snacks, the man asked Adelaide,

"Ain't you Missy McNamara's daughter."

She gritted her teeth and replied,

"Not anymore."

As he was prepping the meat, he said,

" Shame what happened to her. Bible says 'In the midst of life we are in death'. Did you know that? I lost a mother to lunch cancer."

She tensed at the word "mother" because hers wasn't very much of one. Even though Missy lived with the family, she wasn't very present in it. He continued on,

"You look like your Mother. People ever tell you that?"

Still tense, she nodded and said,

"Yes, sir."

He replied with,

"That's good. She was a beaut and had the voice of an angel. I remember when she used to perform. Oh her voice was like sweet nectar from the gods."

As Adelaide approached the register he asked,

"Do you sing?"

She shook her head with a,

"No-no sir."

He looked at her questioningly and asked,

"Then what do you do?"

She thought about for a second then said,

"I don't know."

And with that, she set the money on the counter and hobbled out the door as fast as she could. He took the money, gave me the change, then I grabbed all the stuff and chased after Dolly.

Time Skip

We had walked back to the yard and hopped the fence, rejoining Vern and Teddy. They told us that Gordie was off to the bathroom. We thought that he'd go the way we did, through the hole in the fence, but then my eyes widened in horror as he realized that he was on the other side of the fence, at our abandoned sunshade. But even worse, was that Milo Pressmen was behind him and started hollering,

"Hey! Hey you kid! What're you doing there?! Come over here! You, you! Come back here! Come back here goddammit! I'll sic my dog on you!"

All of us on this other side of the fence started yelling at him,

"Run, Gordie, run!"

As Gordie started running, we heard Milo yell,

"Chopper sic him, sic him, boy!"

Gordie screamed but jumped on to the fence and made it to the other side. He leaped off, into Teddy. We looked down at Chopper. Gordie expressed all of our thoughts perfect in one sentence, saying,

"That's Chopper?"

The dog was an adorable puppy. We all started laughing and Teddy yelled,

"Come on, Choppy! Kiss my a*s, Choppy! Kiss my a*s! Come on bite sh*t! Come on, Choppy, sic balls, Choppy!"

Milo was pissed and started yelling at us,

"Hey, you kids! Stop teasing that dog! Do you hear me? Stop it! Sonny, I'll beat your a*s teasing my dog like that!"

Teddy made one snarky remark, and that set Milo off. He started hollering at us, then pissed off Teddy by insulting his dad. It took the other four of us to keep him from jumping the fence and beating Milo Pressman's a*s.
