Gordie POV

I had woken up and walked around a little. I was at the train track, then suddenly, a deer appeared. I decided I was going to keep that to myself. I was walking back to the site when i stepped on a stick, the noise waking up Chris and Adelaide. They had stayed up all night, but the second the sun peeked into the sky, they fell asleep, still with their bodies entwined The stick that had cracked woke them up. They immediately jumped off, brushed themselves off, pretending that they hadn't been making out last night. The entire gang had been at least half-awake either from coming off shift or from tossing and turning. Suddenly, a freight came by and woke up Teddy and Vern. We all packed up without a word. We had started walking for a little bit then Vern broke the silence complaining,

"Jeeze, Gordie. Why couldn't you get some breakfast stuff like Twinkies and root beer?"

I wasn't in the mood for his whining, when Chris saved the day saying,

"Sorry, Vern. I guess some more experienced shoppers could have gotten more for your seven cents."

That comment put him in his place, shutting him up.

With our stomachs rumbling we pressed on toward the Royal River. The reality of Ray Brower was growing and kept us moving despite the heat. For me, the idea of seeing that kid's dead body was starting to become an obsession.

We had finally reached the beautiful land, Chris presenting it saying,

"Gentlemen and Lady, the Royal."

It was a beautiful field and forest, but the tracks went out of the way as pointed out by Teddy saying,
"God, the tracks go way out of the way."

We all nodded, and Chris suggested,

"If we cut across this field right here, we'll be there in an hour."

Vern was worried and said,

"I think we should stick to the tracks."

Teddy, siding with Chris, said,

"I say we go across the field."

Chris turned to me and asked,

"Gordie?"

I nodded, then he turned to Adelaide, his eyebrow raised, she responded,

"Yes."

With that response, he grabbed Adelaide, threw her over his shoulders fireman style, and ran saying,

"Let's go!"

As he was running with her on his shoulders she was shrieking her head off. We heard her saying amongst the shrieking,

"Put me down!"

We heard Chris laugh as he continued running. Teddy started after them yelling,

"Take no prisoners!"

And mocked fired a gun, me and Vern running off behind him.

Time Skip

We had made it into the forest, and Vern started complaining,

"I hate this shortcut."

Teddy started mocking him,

"I hate this shortcut."

Vern fake punched Teddy as Teddy had done it so many times before. But to his surprise, Teddy flinched. Vern's face lit up as he said,

"Hahaha! You flinched! Two for flinching!"

Vern was slugged twice in the arm. He was so confused and stammered out,

"B-b-but you flinched."
