(I'll just go outside so I can cool down a little.)

Leaving Izaac there, I make my way towards the terrace.

On the way, I spot a guy with dark hair glancing the crowd as if he's trying to find someone.

(Is that...? Could that be Dan?)

But he disappears into the crowd before I can see his face.

(Maybe it was someone else? Serena said she didn't invite him after all...)

Feeling a little puzzled, I step outside of the room.

I find a place to sit in a quiet lounge nearby, a door suddenly opens.

Two girls appear to be trying to sneak their way in as they giggle.

One of them is wearing casual clothes and the other is in a beautiful gown.

"Jenny?"

Jenny: "[Y/N]?"

The girl in a gown is Jenny.

"What happened? I thought you weren't supposed to be here?"

Instead of going through the reception at the front, they've come through the backdoor.

Jenny: "I know. I didn't have an invitation, but then Vanessa said she'd help me out."

Jenny points to the girl next to her and says,

Jenny: "This is Vanessa. She's an old friend of my brother's. She moved to Woodbury a little over a year ago, but now she's back again."

Vanessa and I introduced ourselves.

Jenny: "I borrowed this dress from her."

Vanessa: "My friend works in a theater costume department."

"It's wonderful. It looks great on you."

Jenny: "Thanks."

Vanessa: "Although, really, the Queen should have lent her a dress."

"The Queen?"

Jenny: "Stop, Vanessa, that's enough."

Vanessa: "But you worked helping Blair so the least she could have done was give you an invitation and a dress, right?"

Jenny: "I offered to help."

Jenny refutes.

Jenny: "It's not like she promised anything..."

Vanessa: "Don't make excuses for her."

Jenny: "Yeah, I was kind of hoping I could go, so I helped her with all of her prep work. But then she told me, Freshmen don't get to go to the ball.'."

Vanessa: "What does she mean by that? She's just full of it."

She remarks acidly.

Apparently, most of the Brooklyn folk have a notorious distaste for the Upper East Side.

"Oh, I think I saw Dan in the ballroom just now."

Jenny: "You saw my brother?"

Vanessa: "That can't be. He told me he had to stay up all night writing an American history paper. He'd never come to a fancy dance like this. It's just not possible."

"Maybe it's someone else then."

(She might be right. She does seem to know Dan really well.)

Suddenly, I recall the conversation Serena and I had before.
