"As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you."—
"Bella, we're gonna be late if we don't stop doing this."
"We already are late!" An inebriated Bella propped her iPhone against a beer bottle before turning to an equally drunk Romessa, who was slightly out of breath. "Just one more try. Please?"
It was Thursday, and the pair had plans to meet up with their friends—Ann-Kathrin, Hiba, and Cathy—at the stadium to watch Dortmund's match against Leverkusen. But Romessa should've known better than to go with Bella, who was awful at punctuality, and even worse at being sober. It started with a casual glass of wine while they waited for the appropriate time to call an Uber—but, five glasses and forty minutes later, the pair found themselves on their fifth attempt at making yet another Tik Tok. "This is ridiculous," laughed Romessa. "Fine. One more try." Of course, the dancing hadn't been her idea—but a drunk Romessa hardly ever said no to something, even if it was ridiculous. After doing one final take and quickly sharing another beer, the pair left for the stadium, hardly missing their Uber in the process.
When they arrived to Signal Iduna, the first half of the match had just two minutes left. Romessa could feel Jessica's judgmental eyes on her from every angle, eventually causing her to grow annoyed. "Look at her," Romessa spoke to Hiba in Arabic, though her voice was loud enough for everyone in the suite to hear—this was thanks to how drunk she was. She pointed obviously towards Jessica, then looked back at Hiba. "Did you know she hates me?"
Confused, Hiba responded, though at a much more sensible volume. "She might harbor some resentment, Romessa, but I'm sure she doesn't hate you."
Romessa stared at Jessica, who was now speaking with two women that she didn't recognize—though judging by the looks they continuously shot her, it wasn't hard to tell that she was the topic of conversation. "She's upset about the wedding," spoke Romessa. She grinned at Hiba. "But I have a secret. I know what she should really be upset about. Do you want to know it?"
Hiba rolled her eyes, though she still grinned in amusement. "Romessa, you're piss drunk. How did they even let you into the stadium?"
"Ya Rabbi, do you want to know the secret or not?"
"If I let you tell me the secret, will you—"
"I'm sorry, but can we not do the whole Arabic-speaking thing in front of everyone else?" Jessica was suddenly standing right before Romessa and Hiba, her tone and expression clearly displaying her annoyance with every word as she crossed her arms.
Romessa blinked, surprised and increasingly unnerved. "Excuse me?" The room grew quiet as everyone looked on, curious and surprised by Jessica's confrontation. There's no way this is actually happening, thought Romessa, as her eye's met Hiba's. Hiba's cheeks were red as she looked back at Romessa, unsure of what to say. I guess it is. "What made you think it was a good idea to say that?" Romessa rose an eyebrow.
