One September afternoon during second year, returning home together after a tedious conditioning session, Kai, Kuroo, and Yaku found themselves falling into step beside one another as the cicadas droned on with their incessant cries. The chatter between the three of them had fallen flat; there weren't many topics to broach when all three saw one another every day for lengths of time. However, there was one subject threatening to burn a hole in Kuroo's tongue if he held onto it any longer.

"Come on Yaku it's so obvious you have a crush on her," Kuroo burst out suddenly, "why don't you just ask her out already?"

Though unnamed, it was more than obvious Kuroo meant you. You were all Yaku cared to mention in any free moment he had: changing before practice, on other walks to school, on the train, or on the walk home. Today was an oddity that he hadn't found a way to squirm your name into any conversation the three of them had on the walk to the train station. Instead of retorting back with his usual insult, Yaku merely shot him a glare. "It's just not that simple. You wouldn't know, you've never had a girlfriend before," he sighed, folding his arms across his chest.

Kuroo looked over Yaku's head to Kai who shrugged, "Don't look at me I don't have a girlfriend either."

Kuroo ran a hand through his already messy hair; he desperately wanted Yaku to make his move already, partially because he wholeheartedly supported any relationship that would happen between both of you, but mostly because he was sick of the constant love-sick talk from Yaku and his worrying about how to even ask the question that would change the course of friendship between the two of you. That incessant worrying and tension was starting to grow to an unhealthy level and was beginning to affect the libero's practice performance. It was now or never.

Out of options, Kuroo started at the beginning, "Yaku, what was the first date you ever took her on?"

"I took her to a tea shop she likes and we talked and we studied together."

"God Yakkun, even your dates are boring."

"Hey! Last I checked, I didn't ask for your opinion."

Before Yaku took on someone more than a head taller than him, most certainly with ease though, Kai hooked his arms beneath Yaku's armpits and held him firmly in place, "Alright Yaku calm down. Kuroo's just trying to help in his own... special way."

Those words seemed to calm Yaku down and he stopped resisting Kai's restraint. The two relaxed and Yaku let out a heaving sigh as he yelled at the top of his lungs, "I give up! I'll just be single forever!" His outburst caused many on a nearly empty street to turn his way and flash a concerned expression for the exasperated boy.
