That night Anna sat at the table, looking over her shipping order. She love what she did. But it really took a toll on her sometimes. Her partner had called her during dinner. Explaining that the shipment had been lost, and she was doing everything she could to find it. Upon looking at the shipment tracker. She found out which company had shipped it, and the last documented location.
She gave a friend at a different location a call. Asking her if when her trucker got in if she could have him call and state his last location. She hung up the call just as a loud bang came from upstairs. Anna immediately sat up in shock. She sat there in silence, wondering if she had actually heard that thump. Slowly she stood up, walking out of the kitchen. Looking around she grabbed a large candlestick she had found earlier. Slowly she made her way up the stairs, as quietly as she could.
Suddenly she heard it again. It sounded like someone falling on the floor. As if they had tripped on something, and had been unable to catch themselves. She looked around once she got to the top of the stairs. Slowly and carefully she tiptoed around. Looking in the room, scared of what she may find. Slowly she looked in each room. Finally she came to the only room that had it's door closed. Taking a deep breath she threw the door open, candlestick in one hand above her head, looking at a.....a cat?
Anna looked around the empty room. There was nothing but a cat! She laughed at herself, as she stepped aside to let the cat out. Getting up, the cat walked over to her. Stretching before it sat down at her feet. She scratched it's head, as she set the candlestick down. She slowly picked up the animal, giving it enough time to move if it wanted.
"Well what's your name?" Taking the collar in her hand, the cat meowed at her. She found the tag, reading the name Steve. Turning around she started making her way back downstairs, planning on carrying Steve to the kitchen. Not noticing the darker shadow in the corner of the room.
Anna was sure Steve would be hungry, He was after all pretty skinny. She sat him on a chair, talking to him as she shedded some turkey. After he finished his dinner, they went to the living room. Both falling asleep on the couch, listening to the rain fall outside.
Anna woke up to a knocking on the door. Slowly she stretched out. Earning herself a disgruntled noise from Steve. She started standing up, she made her way to the door. Just as she was about to get to it, she fell with a loud thump, yelling out the word fuck. Causing the knock to stop mid knock. She looked up as the door knob slowly turned. Something pushing the door open just enough for a small faced woman to poke her head in. Anna looked into the doed eyed woman. She looked a little shocked, then formed a giant smile seeing Anna. She opened the door wider. As Anna stood up, getting out of the way.
"You ok?" Anna was taken aback by the soft tone the woman had. She composed herself enough to tell the unknown woman she was fine. Taking the cup the lady offered, she looked at her questingly. "It's coffee." She explained happily. "My kids explained you just moved in. And I thought, well you know.." She waved her hand excitedly. "Since you probably hadn't had time to unpack, you'd do it today. And what better way to start unpacking than by making a friend, who has a great cup of coffee?"
Anna stood looking at the woman still in shock. Watching her take a sip from her own cup, Anna copied her hoping it was safe.
