My phone rang for the eighth time but I ignored it. It's been a week since I got out of my coma and about two days since Mars got out of his. He called me the first day and he's been non-stop ever since. I just honestly don't know what to say to him. I don't want to believe Mrs. Holt but then again, why would she be so angry with me if Mars hadn't told her some bullshit story? He's been playing the victim for so long that he doesn't even realize it...

"Max, please answer the phone." Dad said, walking by with the laundry basket. "Why do you keep ignoring it?"

"Well I wouldn't want to answer it and say the wrong thing 'bullying' him even more." I said sarcastically.

Dad made a face. "You're being ridiculous."

"Is it so hard to believe?"

"Extremely."

I pointed to my large stomach. "Pregnant man."

"So?"

"Months ago we would have never believed this could happen but now look at me. If something like this was so hard to believe and yet came true, then anything else is kind of fair game."

"This is a little different than that, son. Mars has been nothing but helpful and supportive through this whole thing."

"Apparently it's just so that his mom was able to see how much I've been able to manipulate him over the years."

"You're twisting Adah's words. She's a scared mom-"

"No. No, this is stuff that she's been harboring since we were little, Dad. She's been waiting to say something to me about all this for like thirteen years. THIRTEEN YEARS!" I screamed as my eyes began to fill with angry tears. "If it was something suddenly new, then I wouldn't care but this... what she said was stuff that she's been keeping pent up for a long time and without Mars there to dissuade her, she was able to say what she wanted."

"I just can't fathom how you could think that Mars was a part of the reason for her outburst."

"Why would she be so angry if he wasn't?"

"Why don't you ask him?" Dad said, picking up my phone and holding it out. "It's obvious he wants to talk to you."

"All he'll do is lie."

"Just talk to him, Max. I'm tired of hearing the phone go off." Dad finally says, exasperated.

I sighed and held out my hand and he threw the phone to me. I slid the screen over to answer it and put it up to my ear.

"Hello?"

"Dude, what the hell? You know I've been calling you. Why haven't you been picking up?"

"Well... um..."

"I mean, I know you're mad-"

"Mad? No, I'm not just mad, I'm furious! What the hell is your problem?! Even if I wanted you to stay unconscious to help me, I would have never asked you to fucking DIE doing it!!!"

"I honestly wasn't trying to do that! Look, all I wanted to do was get sleepy enough that it was more like a lucid dream. I figured if I could kind of be in an in between state, no one would suspect me. Apparently, my mom upped her dosage and so when I took a little more than usual, it was too much for my body to handle. I just wanted to be able to help you get out of there... I mean..."

"You could have just kept coming back when you fell asleep. That's all I was telling you when I said what I said. Why did you have to take to the extreme?"

"Because you're my friend and I-"

"I don't think we should be friends anymore."

He was silent for a moment. "What did my mom say to you while I was out?"
