Dew was watching warily as Eseul went to draw water from the well. For some reason, Eseul felt irritation crawl up her neck.
"Can you help me?" Eseul asked Dew as she struggled to pull the bucket over the well.
When Eseul looked over at Dew for help, she saw Dew was frozen in place, her eyes wide with fear and disbelief.
A scream lodged itself in Dew's throat.
When the scream freed itself, Eseul slowly turned to see what it was Dew had seen, and when Eseul saw it too, she dropped her bucket and fell forward, startled.
........
"You saw that too, didn't you?!" Dew asked panicked.
Eseul was at a loss for words.
She did see it.
What was going on?
"Wait.."
This was a lot to process.
As Eseul delayed, other villagers were rushing out with hastily packed bags.
"Okay, let's go," Eseul finally spoke.
"We only need to take food and water for now," Dew said in her desire to leave.
In half an hour, they passed the threshold of Eseul's house for the last time.
