LORELEI

IN TIMES of crisis, only the privileged have the advantage. Those who are less fortunate have to struggle and suffer.

And sometimes, it's also about who you know. Kung may kakilala kang may sobrang resources, pwede ka niyang bigyan at pwede kang humingi. Kung wala kang kakilala, mahihirapan ka.

This is what I learned on the first night of the school lockdown. Ang unang tanong na bumungad sa amin? Saan kami magpapalipas ng araw at gabi.

"So where are we gonna stay?" tanong ni Jamie, pinaglalaruan ang kanyang hair braid. "Hindi kasi ako nagdo-dorm dito sa campus kaya wala akong alam na mapag-i-stay-an."

"I always drive myself back to my apartment," sagot ni Alistair, napakrus ang mga braso.

"I told you earlier, didn't I?" Loki lifted his gaze at us. "I know a secret passage on how we can get out of this school. We can stay in our apartment until the quarantine is over."

"My Loki dear never fails us!

Jamie and I could share my room. Loki could share his room with Alistair. But—

"Nope," Alistair said. "You heard the student council president. We have to stay in campus until the crisis is over."

"Al naman!" Hinawakan siya ni Jamie sa braso. "I know you love obeying the rules and stuff, pero hindi ba't mas okay kung hindi tayo rito mag-i-stay? What are we gonna do here for the next few days or weeks? Magtitigan? We can do so much more kung nasa apartment tayo ni Loki."

Hey, that's also my apartment, but I got her point.

"We can play board games there," dagdag ni Loki. I bet he'd rather stay there than here. "The landlady also owns this deck of cards that can threaten the stability of relationships and bring end to friendships. What do you call them again?"

"You don't really like that game, do you?"

My aunt and I had some sort of secret alliance kaya lagi naming binababaan ng +2 at +4 na cards si Loki. He was annoyed and accused us of rigging the game against him.
