Deidara was hoping that his plan wouldn't fail, it'd be a miracle if it didn't.
Let's be honest, the blonde wasn't ready for any of this.
He just wanted to be a normal artist, he just wanted to show the world that art was an explosion.
Unfortunately, the Akatsuki came and said "fuck you" in front of his face then it was goodbye to all of his dreams and wishes. Then he became some sort of rouge ninja, he was being used and now life just absolutely sucks because he's being forced to participate in a war by one of his many love interests.
How wonderful.
Now, the allied shinobi forces were working alongside Deidara, a former Akatsuki member. Some of them were skeptical of working with an ex-member but hey, it made everything a bit easier, especially if Deidara was supposedly Obito's "lover". The blonde would be able to persuade Obito into calling off the whole war or something.
It was bold of them to assume that he hasn't already tried doing that.
(you can tell that he failed miserably).
"Deidara."
The blonde jumps at the sound of the Uchiha's voice, he turns around, tilting his head at an angle.
"Yeah, un?", he answers.
"Nothing, just wanted to check on you.", he quickly dismisses and although Deidara's heart practically just melted, he had to keep in mind that he was the enemy.
He was doing this for the sake of his and the allied shinobi's future.
"How sweet.", he mumbles. His bluebell eyes meet Obito's bland (and stupid) mask. He hated the mask because his mask was the thing that made Deidara want to learn more about him. That damned orange mask was cursed and now, he was in this hell of a mess. "Say, how's the whole war coming along?"
Obito raises an eyebrow. "I thought you would know, you did go and check, right? Distracted me, believing I would actually fall to your trick?", he lets out a small scoff and Deidara feels sweat trickle down his spine. The taller places a finger to the blonde's chin, tilting it upwards so he could get a better look at him. "I don't know what you're planning Deidara but you better not oppose me. I'm doing this for the sake of us and our future."
Deidara pushes the raven away, having him stumble backwards. "Our future?! God, how many times do I have to say this, hm? Everything about this is fucked up! Having us fight for our own reality, what you call your future?! You're planning to put everyone to sleep! Hypnotize the whole world and kill them off just so you can build this 'new reality'!!", the blonde's throat was burning. He's mentioned this a thousand times but he was never able to change Obito's perspective.
What was the point of fighting in the first place?
Deidara already joined forces with the supposed enemy, somehow managed to get the Reanimated Akatsuki members out of Kabuto's control and yeah.
He hadn't thought this through. He was only a young man, he only wanted to be an artist. He never intended for his life to go downhill and participate in a war.
Okay, maybe he would've participated but only if he were on the right side. Obito's objective, it was nothing Deidara wanted. What would be the point of living a whole new life if everyone you ever loved is dead?
There'd be no point in existing, especially if your heart belonged to someone else.
Deidara lets out a sigh. "Shit - I'm sorry, un. Sorry for lashing out at you again, I'm still confused with what I want.", he mumbles, folding his arms.
"We're broken people living in broken worlds, Deidara.", Obito says. "Both of our dreams have been crushed and the promises we made broke as well. We're damaged, far too damaged."
He steps forward, reaching his hands out as he holds Deidara's hands in his. The blonde doesn't jolt back, he relaxes and looks up at the raven.
He is doing this to save the world.
"Yeah, damaged is a good way to put it.", he mumbles. "But this isn't some lame-ass musical number, hm. We can't win, we're going to get defeated either way."
Obito scoffs. "So? There's nothing wrong with trying.", he answers with a smirk. "Look, I love you Deidara. I'm trying my best to win this war for us. We'll build the world again."
And for a second, Deidara believed him.
He believed that Obito truly loved him and that all this wasn't just manipulation.
Deidara shakes his head, smiling to the ground before looking back up.
"I love you too, un."
