pink, like your brain

pink, like your brain
i'll kiss you till you're insane
till you're blushing mad
and raving about how lovely my lips are
asking for a peek behind my occipital bone
like crisp petunias and raised burn scars
like sensitive gums holding your molars
like spiked fruit punch gone sour
like the wrong lemonade
on a burning summer's day steeped in rosy skies and salt water taffy
we stick to each other's hands
picking it off is no use and i'd rather keep you
underneath my nails for later
like a pablo neruda poem
written on notebook paper
and slipped under a pillow
all the right words whispered
beneath a cotton sheet
like pop rocks on a tongue
like fingers on a cheek
like the fresh skin you pick till it stings
like children gathering the
first flowers of spring
i trace patterns on your flushed skin
i sing you my old lullabies
and pray a great flood of this feeling
drowns us all tomorrow
fills the living room up to our eyes
and we die laughing underwater
