Chapter Seven — 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭

"Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother." — Lin Yutang

"Take one with me." I said to Leah.

"Fine." Leah said as she grabbed the other pregnancy test and went into the bathroom first.

A few minutes later she came back out and placed the pregnancy stick on the surface of the table then I went in.

I took a deep breath as I peed on the stick.

Then I walked back out and placed the pregnancy stick next to Leah's.

"How long do we have to wait?" I asked.

"The box said four to five minutes." Leah answered.

"Let's put a timer on." I said.

Leah grabs the kitchen timer and sets it to five minutes.

We both take a seat at the kitchen table.

"What are you going to do if you're pregnant?" Leah asked.

"What do you mean? I'm going to keep my baby." I answered.

"And what about Embry?" She asked.

"He can be a part of the baby's life. I would not keep the baby from him." I replied.

"But if you guys are like imprinted then what are you going to do?" She asked.

"I don't know but let's focus on if I'm pregnant first." I answered.

The timer dinged a few minutes later and Leah sucked in her breath.

"You want me to check?" I asked.

"I'll do it." Leah answered.

I stood up and followed her.

Leah gasped and said,"They're both positive!"

"What?" I asked as I grabbed the sticks from her hand and read them.

"Leah, who have you been having sex with?" I asked.

"I gotta go." Leah answered as she quickly left the bathroom.

"Leah!" I exclaimed as she raced out of the front door.

"Charlie, I'm pregnant." I blurted out in front of Sue, Billy and Charlie, who spat his beer out of his mouth.

"How?" Charlie asked.

"Sometimes it just happens." I answered, much calmer now that I didn't have to keep my pregnancy a secret.

"Just happens?" Billy bellowed out.

"Are you freaking kidding me! If you have sex, you use
protection. It's that simple. This doesn't have to happen! This is nothing but carelessness. It's irresponsible. You and Embry were being irresponsible." Charlie said.

"Charlie!" Sue exclaimed as I rolled my eyes at Charlie and frowned.

"You've been having sex with Embry!" Billy exclaimed.

"Yeah." I said.

"What were you thinking?" Billy asked.

"We...umm like each other." I replied.

"Like?" Sue asked.

"Yes." I answered.

"As in like soulmate like?" Billy asked, implying if we were imprints.

"We're not sure." I replied.

"So irresponsible of you both. What are you going to do with a baby?" Charlie asked.

"I'm going to raise it." I answered.

"What the hell do you know about raising a baby?" Charlie asked.

"There are books." I replied.

"Embry is going to have to get a job to support you and the baby after he marries you." Charlie said.

"Marry? Who said anything about marriage?" I asked, gasping.

"I did. He knocks you up then he has to marry you." Charlie answered.

"Oh God." I said.

"Welp, that sounds like a good idea." Sue said.
