Star and Diamond were the pokemon of the Kalos champion, but during her visit to the Alola region the trainer mysteriously disappeared. The two Shiny pokemon were out of their pokeballs at the time, and after acquiring the help of a blue and white gardevoir named Crystal who had been on the island a while, managed to run into Valkyrie, Valhalla, Anubis, Lancelot, and eventually track down what had happened to the Kalos champion.
Star is a sassy, realistic, protective, but caring pokemon, who is often frustrated by the 'Love Pentagon' of Anubis, Valkyrie, Lancelot, Crystal, and Diamond, but nonetheless thinks of them as her family. Star often watches over Valhalla while Valkyrie is gone, and so has very well-tuned senses and instincts, especially since she can sense aura. Sometimes Star can get a bit snappy, but that's not too often.
Diamond is very different from Star. He is a hard-working and serious being, who is always up for a challenge, though he almost always succeeds at everything he does. Diamond does not have much of a humorous or gentle side, he has only been known to make one joke in his life, which was when he thought he was about to die. The powerful Gallade loves Crystal, but doesn't know it, nor does he make much of an effort to express it. However, Diamond has been known to smile, so he is not all doom and gloom and seriousness.
