—JAYLENE ROSEWOOD used to be the girl who could do no wrong. Her aura was the epitome of perfection, not a single flaw that was visible to the naked eye. She'd grown up in Outer Banks, North Carolina, living on the wealthier side of the island which was known as figure 8. The large mansion she called her home was home to four people: her father, her stepmother, her younger brother, and herself.

She was only 4 years old when her birth-mother died due to relations having to do with hardcore drugs and severe depression, so it wasn't necessarily shocking to her family when Jaylene nearly died that exact same way. Could it easily have been avoided? Definitely. Was it? Obviously not. Everything went completely downhill towards the end of the first semester of her sophomore year. That's when she got involved with the wrong crowd of people, resulting in her life nearly coming to a sudden end.

After the incident where she overdosed on pills, which had been supplied to her by none other than Rafe Cameron, her father took the parental decision of sending her away to a rehabilitation center located off the island in East Hampton, New York where she'd complete a six month program to help better her damaged mental state.

Now, after six long months, Jaylene's finally cleared and is allowed to head back to the island that no longer feels like home. Her arrival shocks everyone to say the least, no one thought she'd ever show her face again after she nearly ruined her family's reputation with her near-death experience. But in reality, no one really knew the truth behind her departure, everyone had made up their own stories that simply made sense to them, or they believed the lie that her own family had created to protect their self-image.

OR

IN WHICH Jaylene finds herself growing closer to the son of an old family friend.
