In a dimly lit room, light shining from only one small All Might lamp, a freckled hand picked up a small photo.  A pale thumb gently brushed against the euphoric faces as if caressing them from through the glass.

The photo displayed the faces of twenty lively students and one fondly exasperated teacher.  Even after the many years since it was taken, the joy radiating from the kids was contagious.

A small smile graced the lips of the forest haired omega who was looking down on the photo of the colorful students.  Longing ghosted across his glowing green eyes, but was soon extinguished along with the dark.

A small squeaking alerted Izuku to the small toddler making his way in.  Soft light trickled in from the doorway and illuminated the soft features of both mother and son.

The two of them were alike in almost every way, lookwise.  Expressive viridian eyes, milky smooth skin dotted with constellations of freckles, small build and button noses were shared between the two.  The only visible difference was the hair. Where one had soft green curls, the other had soft blond dipped in green.

The photo was set down on the cream colored nightstand with a small tap.

"It's almost 9, Katsuji.  What are you doing up?", Izuku inquired while beckoning the assumedly omega baby closer.

A small button nose scrunched up, "Nightmare, mama".  Curious eyes strayed towards the photo that was previously being held.  This curiosity was voiced as the pup was hoisted into the mother's cross legged lap, "What're doing with that?"

Softly sighing, Izuku eyed the faces in the photo.  He slowly blinked before breaking the silence, "Just thinking, Ji".

"Bout?"

"Old times".

The pup seemed to have taken an interest to this new subject never before brought up.  Recognition flashed in his tired eyes, "They heroes like you were. You friends?"

Cold air blew in from the curtained window and the breeze gently ruffled their hair.  Katsuji shivered and pressed his face into his mother's stomach. Izuku grabbed a froppy blanket from the end of the bed he was on and wrapped it around the both of them.

"Just acquaintances, Ji.  Nothing much."

Lie.  They were family.  His family. They meant the world to him.  Downplaying it hurt less, though. He could pretend he didn't screw it up that way.  Pretend he didn't run and that it didn't hurt.

He could pretend that they weren't so far apart.

He couldn't say that, though.  Katsuji was two and didn't need to help shoulder that kind of pain.

Katsuji didn't notice the lie.  He hummed, content with this new knowledge.  Snuggling closer, a muffled voice sounded, "Sing?"

Izuku pressed his face into the blond curls and inhaled deeply.  The smell of pup and cotton candy grounded him. From the two year old's scent and behavior, it was likely that he was omega.  One could never truly know, though, until they presented.

The mother scooted back and lowered them down beneath the pale blue comforter.  Katsuji pressed himself close to his mother's side, while Izuku looked up at the ceiling.  Plastic stars glowed in the dark and reflected in the thoughtful eyes looking up at them.

"Somewhere over the rainbow…"
