Hey little girl--
What are you dreaming?
You stay up late at night
For joyful play, not for spite,
But I stay up now 'cause tears are streaming.Hey little girl--
Why do you smile and laugh?
Your friendships, they won't last.
You'll grow to miss the past
While I wallow in regrets of your path. They say to get help--
"You can't hide from yourself"
But then who would I be
Without this disease?Hey little girl--
Why are you crying?
You've faced no stormy sea.
You're allowed to live free.
Only writing is when I'm not lying. You say it's your fault,
But I think it's mine.
This mask has been here so long,
It's too late to say I'm not fine.Hey little girl--
Why do you behave so well?
Why do you hold your tongue?
And then you break down--
Did I put on the mask that young?A/N: This was originally written as song lyrics. Written in summer 2018, edited early 2020.
