**Thur**
I was shaken awake by the dude sitting next to me on the plane. "Hmm?" I let out, too tired to speak properly.
"You should put your seatbelt on. We're about to land." He said, slight amusement in his tone.
Before I fell asleep, he'd made some small talk with me. He told me he worked for some bank and that he was getting married soon. I told him I was in a band and that the guys had forcibly sent me home to forget about my 'long-lasting post-breakup depression'.
I put on my seatbelt and hummed to Lights Out, forcing my brain to focus on anything other than sleeping... And a certain red-head who haunted my every thought.
When the plane landed, I swung my carry on over my shoulder and said goodbye to banker-dude. I went straight to baggage claim and wasted 10 minutes of my life waiting for my bags. Next stop, Starbucks.
I bought myself some black coffee and added 4 sugar packets, almost sure this wasn't gonna get me out of this almost drunken stupor I was in. I was was making my way out into the cold when I heard someone eagerly call my name. I turned and saw a blonde girl running towards me. She held her arms wide open as she ran. I opened arms and caught her in as hug before she rammed into me.
"Hey, there." I said, laughing. I hugged her just as tightly as she hugged me, keeping my coffee as far from her a I could.
"Oh, God. Hi, sorry." She said, pulling away quickly. She had a big grin on her face. "I love you so much."
"Aw, I love you, too. What's your name?" I asked, smiling at the girl.
"Alyssa." She grinned excitedly.
"Well, Alyssa, thank you for supporting me and the guys. We appreciate it." I told her, smiling. Actually having a conversation with another human being was helping me wake up.
"No, thank you for everything you do for us. You don't know how much you help us." She said truthfully, which improved my mood tenfold. "Hey, can I ask you something?"
I shrugged, curious, "Sure, hit me."
She cleared her throat, looking slightly awkward. "A couple of us have been wondering... About you and Hayley.. Do you two still talk?"
I coughed in surprise. I thought back to all the months with Hayley. All the laughs, the pain, the love. I blinked back the memories and smiled at Alyssa, hoping she hadn't noticed my zoning out. "We.. uh.. We still talk sometimes, yeah." I felt bad for lying, I mean, Hayley'd tried to communicate with me several times, but each time I'd tell her to leave me alone until she finally did. Even then, I was sure she called Jordan for updates every once in a while.
She smiled in relief, "Good. It'd be a shame if a bond like that were just thrown out. I'd better go and catch my flight. Thank for officially making this the best vacation ever." We hugged one last time and she was on her way.
I hauled my bags outside and hailed a taxi. After putting my bags in the trunk, I sat inside the car and told the driver where to go.
Through the drive, I sat, thinking about what Alyssa had said about Hayley's and my bond. Had I completely ruined every chance to keep her in my life? To answer my own question: yes. I did. Even if I tried to reach out to her, she'd probably feel bad about my behavior these past couple of months and wouldn't treat me the same way she did before. Honestly, I didn't want her to treat me as she did before we dated. I wanted to go back to when we almost had it all.
"If you keep staring at your hands like that, you'll burn a hole through 'em." The driver said, glancing at me through the rear view mirror. He was around my age, blond hair, brown eyes, and a kind smile.
I shook my head and smiled awkwardly at him, "Sorry, just thinking."
"About what?" He paused, "If you don't mind my asking." He said; he had a slight southern accent. It was cute. I'd definitely try to get his number if I weren't a lesbian, honestly. And still unhealthily in love with Hayley.
"I used to date this person. I loved them wholeheartedly. Our relationship ended a couple months back and.. She said she was gonna care about me no matter what. She tried reaching out to me, but I ruined every chance I got to have her in my life. I still love her." I rambled, stopping when I saw nameless dude's face. He looked confused.
He cleared his throat, "Well, I'm in no place to judge, so.. You should probably talk to her. She obviously seems to care about you and appreciate you and you shouldn't let that go."
I stared at him, slightly surprised. Not even the guys had given me advice like that, "Oh, okay, I.. Thank you.. I'll call her once I stop moping. Which will hopefully be soon."
We were quiet for the rest of the drive. Once I got home, I made myself some tea - considering the fact that I had absolutely no food here - and went to bed to sleep off my jet lag.
