*though they are part of the armadillo family, this animal is theorized to not use its shell as armor
*instead, the shell is made up of 24 bands and is very flexible
*that fact, along with the fact that the light pink color comes from the blood vessels underneath the plating, is what leads scientists to believe
*that the armor is for THERMOregulation
*these animals are not very adaptive and are very specialized
*they only survive in specific places in South America and are not good at living anywhere else
*besides this, armadillos can get very stressed when removed from their habitat or in contact with humans
*they live in a desert ecosystem, and don't blend in with the sand. This is why they often spend much of their life burrowed underneath the ground
*they are fantastic diggers due to their large front claws
*these animals are very rare, scientists don't know if they are endangered or not because they have sparse data about this species
*farming from humans and cats/dogs are common threats that the pink fairy armadillo face
