Chapter 14
I buried my face in my hands. I was such a mess. I though I was over that jerk Adam already, but it turns out that I may still like him.
I felt a hand in my shoulder and I looked into his gray eyes.
"Come, let's go." He said, without looking at me. He grabbed his bag and phone, then turned to look at me.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He asked in concern. He put his hand on the small of my back and rubbed soothingly.
I wiped the stray tears from my eyes and stood up. "I'm fine. Let's go."
He followed me out of the gym and to his car. "You sure you're alright?"
"I'm sure." I forced a smile. He started up the car.
"Wanna tell me about it?"
I hesitated for awhile. Should I tell him?
"I saw Adam." I said, straight to the point.
"And?"
"I don't know Dakota. When I saw him with Naya, I felt so pathetic all over again. He wanted to make it up to me for missing the date. I really don't know," I grumbled, shoving my hands into my hair is frustration.
Dakota's hands gripped the steering wheel until I could see his knuckles turn white. "Dakota?" I tried.
"I'm so going to kick his ass," Dakota muttered angrily. "Who does he think he is? He has a freaking girlfriend and he still flirts with you? That sure wasn't the Adam that I knew. I don't know him anymore."
I stared at him in silence, and panicked. "Don't do anything rash, Dakota. I'm fine, I'm fine."
I immediately wanted to take back what I had said at the start. I should not have said so much. Now, Dakota is as worked up as a bull.
"You don't know. He was a jerk from the start." Dakota gritted his teeth.
"What? What do you mean?"
He clamped his lips shut and stared straight at the road in front of him. He still did not answer after 30 seconds.
"Dakota. Tell me."
"We're here." He pulled up in front of my house. I decided to let it drop.
I cupped his face in my hands. "Don't do anything stupid, you hear me?"
"You sound like my mom."
"That's not the point."
"Alright, alright. Mom." He teased.
I pulled his face closer to mine and gave him a kiss. He deepened it, and after awhile, I pulled away.
"See ya." I got out of his car and stood in front of my gate. I watched as he turned and entered his garage.
I strolled into the house, feeling better already.
