chapter 10

Y/n's POV

"Steven...?" I quickly remove my hands from his face and turn at the direction the voice came from. It was a girl, about my age. Steven's eyes go wide open and he quickly gets off of me, stuttering a bit while speaking.
"Connie, I swear t-this is not what it looks like-" Connie was her name. By the way he was speaking, I assumed she was his girlfriend. A bit of guilt was forming in my stomach as I slowly got up. She was shaking and backing away slowly, before completely tearing up and running away. Steven clenched his fists and started running after her, shouting her name. I was left completely alone there, so I just turned around and started heading back to the house. I felt bad though, for the girl. She probably thought Steven was cheating on her. Why would she even be with an awful guy like him anyway?

Not realising, I was already at the front door. The gems were already back. I take a deep breath and open the door. All three of them turn to me.
"Heeeey guys..." Pearl gasps. I looked like a total mess. My hair was messy, a bit of my clothes were torn and there was sand everywhere. I scratch the back of my neck and chuckle nervously. Garnet was standing next to Amethyst, who stood up from the couch as soon as I entered, both with worried expressions. Pearl was the first one to come closer to me. Her hands were shaking a bit before she kneeled down infornt of me, checking if I had any wounds.
"A-are you hurt? How are y-you feeling? Do I need to get you something or-" She was freaking out. I couldn't believe that she was this worried for me. I mean, just a few days ago she thought that I was a threat. I cut her off before she could finish.
"Pearl, I'll be fine. I can heal myself." As soon as I said that, I saw the gems sigh in relief.
"Are you sure you're okay though? You look like a mess" Amethyst speaks up, saying the last part a bit jokingly but while still being serious.
"Gee thanks. And yes, I am feeling good. My body will heal itself after I get some rest so don't worry" I felt like I was too laid back about all of this. The gems gave each other some looks before nodding. Pearl then stands up and looks around.

"Do you have any idea where Steven is perhaps?" She raises an eyebrow. I didn't know if I should tell them or not. I was the first one to attack Steven after all. And that girl... I wonder who she really is to him.
"Yeahh...about that-"
"So you already met Connie I see" Garnet cuts me off with her soothing voice and crosses her arms as she adjusts her visor. At first I was confused on how she knew but then remembered that she had future vision. I nod to her nervously. She looks like she was thinking about something as we all were looking at her. The others were waiting for answers. After a bit of awkward silence, she finally speaks.
"Steven should be back by evening. Everything will be fine" She smiles sweetly to us. Pearl sighs and goes back to sit down by the counter in the kitchen as Amethyst sits back down on the couch with a loud thud. I decide to clean up myself and go grab some of my new clothes the gems have bought for me. I go back down to the bathroom and close the door behind me, locking it. After putting my dirty and ripped clothes by the sink, I look in the mirror. I had dark circles under my eyes, my hair was very messy and I looked very tired.
"Maybe fighting with him wasn't a very good idea..."

*timeskip*

All four of us were just watching TV. I was finally clean and we had some snacks on the table. Evening came. Everything was so peaceful. I got to know the gems better. Amethyst and me had a lot in common. I knew we'd be great friends. Then suddenly, we hear footsteps outside. Steven was finally back and the girl was with him. I tried to look like I didn't care but I really did. I hoped that she was okay. It looked like they were saying something to each other but it was too quiet. After that they open the door and the gems notice. All of them turn to the couple. They smile awkwardly and the girl turns to me. I twitch a bit as she does that. Does she hate me? Her expression was blank. I hope Steven explained everything to her. Just moments after she gives me a big smile and comes closer, extending her hand to me.
"Hi, I'm Connie Maheswaran. You must be Y/n. It's nice to meet you" I hesitantly shake her hand.
"Indeed" She gives me another warm smile. I release the handshake and look back at Steven. He gave me a scary look. I immediately look away and get up from the couch, grabbing the empty bowl next to me.
"Welp, looks like we're out of snacks. Let me head to the kitchen to refill this." There was silence between them all, only my footsteps and the wooden floor creaking was heard. While in the kitchen I hear Connie whisper-yell something to Steven. He did the same. Were they arguing? I couldn't make up what they were saying. The other gems break them up. Only the noises from the TV were heard now.

I look back at the snack bowl. After taking a deep breath I put on a big smile and walk back to the living room. They all were now sitting on the couch. Steven had his arm over Connie's shoulders. They were very close to each other. It didn't seem to bug me much. I mean, why should it? We decided to watch some movies since Connie appeared so suddenly. The gems were happy to see her, especially Pearl. She told me that Connie was once her student. I was impressed as she chuckled a bit. Steven seemed to smile to the others but not me. Did I do something wrong? The whole evening went by like that. I kept thinking about why Steven is mad. The movie ends and Connie stands up.
"I should get going now" Steven stands up after her.
"Aw, you don't want to stay the night?"
"I wish I could but I still need to study" she holds his hands in her own. He walks her to the door. They stop and kiss each other. She then quickly leaves through the door, waving goodbye to us.

I cleaned up the living room along with the gems. Steven was already in his room. He couldn't be bothered to help. After we finished, the gems say their goodbyes to me. Garnet was the last one to leave through the magical door. Before she went into the strange looking room, she put her hand on my shoulder and looked me straight in the eyes.
"Do not be afraid to give your opinion Y/n but still, be careful around him. We don't know what he might do." before I could say anything else, she was quickly gone. I stood there confused in the silence. It was already dark out but not too dark since it was summer. I'm going to have to go up to Steven's room now. On my own. And I don't even know how to call the other gems if something happens or anyone for that matter. I slowly to up the stairs. The door to his room was closed. I take a deep breath and open the door slowly. I was scared to see Steven.

Once I open it, I see Steven sleeping on his side. I couldn't see his face. The room was quiet. I slowly approach the bed. With hesitation I get in the bed, turning my back towards him. I couldn't fall asleep. I was a bit too anxious. After taking a deep breath, I turn my face towards his back. He didn't move at all. I didn't care if he was awake or not by this point.
"Did I do something wrong, Steven? I'm really sorry if I did..." I whisper to him. Still no movement. I would be glad if he's actually asleep.
"I'm sorry for asking you to fight me. I don't know what's gotten into me. I mean, you're the guy who took me in when I was hopeless and now here I am, being... like this." I stare at the ceiling and continue talking.
"It's just that I don't like it when people are mean to me and other, you know? I don't think anyone likes it. Pearl told me that you weren't always like this. I wonder what happened to you that you became aggressive..." still no answer.
"Everytime I try to remember something, all I hear is white loud noise and the feeling of something very familiar but... no matter how hard I try, I can never remember what I have lost. Did someone attack me?Did someone force me to do it? Did I do it on my own free will? Why thought? It's been such a short time since I have awaken and I don't have the patience to wait any longer. I need answers. Who am I really? What about the people I knew? Why did I do this then?"

The light from the half full moon shines into the room. It feels nice. Everything could be seen clearly now. I turn my head to the outside view. It was so quiet. I could even hear his silent breathing. After a bit, I turn my head back at the ceiling.
"I liked it when you were nice to me. I don't like making people upset with me. I'm really sorry for whatever I did that upset you." I hear a rustle and feel him move. When I turn my head to him, I see him fully awake looking at me. I kind of jump a bit but still keep lying down, looking at him a bit terrified.
"It's the first time in a bit you've actually called me by my first name" he whispers. I had no idea why we were whispering but it felt more nice than yelling that's for sure. Now that I think about it, I really have been calling Steven by his last name. I slide down a bit, making us really be face to face. He smiles to me. It actually felt genuine. While blushing a bit, I smile back. He then chuckles and I blush even more.
"W-why are you laughing?" I whisper yell. He scoots over closer to me, our faces being really close now. I felt his warm breath close to my lips. We kept looking into each others eyes. I felt like I was fazed my them, like I couldn't look away. They shimmered in the moon lit room. I could feel him coming closer and closer. My heart was beating like crazy. What was he doing? Just when I felt his lips slightly touch mine, I quickly closed my eyes. I did not expect the thing that happened next.
