Birthday Oneshot 2 of 2
(Tanabata)
____________
"Hey, (Y/N)? What did you wish for?" Killua asked, watching you hang long strips of paper on a bamboo tree's branch.
You giggled, placing your hands down and lacing them together behind your back. "If I tell you, you're just gonna get mad at me and say it's embarrassing!"
Killua raised an eyebrow. "I won't, so just say it!"
"Ehehe, well..." you avoided eye contact with him for a bit, scratching the back of your head sheepishly. "I wished that you'll have a great birthday today... and that we'll be together forever!" You exclaimed at the last part.
"W-Wha?!" Killua stuttered, blushing a bright shade of red. Hastily, he turned away from you. "Idiot, d-don't say that! I-It's embarrassing!"
You laughed, pointing a finger at him. "See, you just said it was embarrassing!"
Killua blushed even harder. "J-Just... Ugh, let's just get going already!" He grabbed your arm and dragged you off into the bustling, festive crowd, all the while you were still a giggling mess.

...It's been 7 years.
7 years since you last saw him.
And 7 years since you left for good...

"...It's been so long since I've been here..." you mumbled, watching the festival unfold in front of you as a wave of nostalgia hit.
On the other hand, your friend, (F/N) looked around in awe. "Woah! So this is what the famous Tanabata festival looks like! So colorful!" She chimed, looking around at the colorful, sparkly streamers hanging above the streets and adorning the various stalls.
You chuckled. "Let's go explore! I feel like I've forgotten everything about it!"
"Yup! I can't wait!" She smiles, dragging you along.
...After what seemed like forever, you finally decided to visit your home country just in time for your favorite festival! Your best friend tagged along, desperate to know more about this foreign land.
The two of you strolled along the street, watching the sparkling fairy lights and brightly-colored lanterns pop up even more as the cloudless sky grew darker. The crowd began to thicken as well, as more and more people started showing up for the evening.
"Woah, it's as crowded as I remember..." You gasped in awe, feeling your heart start to thump loudly against your chest in excitement.
You turned to your friend. "You wanna go to the wish-making area?"
Her eyes widen. "Yes! I wanna know how it works!" She squeals, jumping up and down excitedly.
You discreetly roll your eyes, a small smile tugging at your lips. "Well then, let's go before it gets crowded," you say, grabbing her arm and dragging her towards the colorfully decorated bamboo trees.

"Hey, (Y/N)-chan, aren't you gonna go make a wish as well?" She asks, grabbing a colorful strip of paper to write her wish.
You purse your lips together, shaking your head slowly. "Don't get me wrong, I still love Tanabata... I just don't believe in the wish-granting part of it anymore..."
She tilts her head curiously. "Is it because you never got to see your childhood friend again?"
Your breath hitched, as a downcast expression clouded your features. "It's nothing like that... (F/N)-chan," you lied, trying to put on your best smile. "Let's go to those tables over there so you can write your wish."
