The following morning, Harry Potter was not in a very pleasant mood.

A single glance at his face and anyone would be able to tell that he was downright miserable. Ron was very clearly ignoring him, which was not improving his feelings of despair.

Harry never showed up to breakfast that morning, and after they had eaten, Y/N and Hermione found him moping around in the common room, trying to avoid the Creevey brothers, who were beckoning frantically over to him.

The only positive of that day was that, during breakfast, a lot of people - mainly Muggle-borns and Half-Bloods - were now wearing S.P.E.W. badges. Y/N couldn't help but notice that Ron had removed his own.

Y/N held out a stack of toast to Harry, as he paced the common room. "Hey." he said, blankly as he always did. "We brought you this. Fancy a walk outside?"

"Good idea," said Harry gratefully.

The three went downstairs, crossed the Entrance Hall quickly without looking in at the Great Hall, and were soon striding across the lawn towards the lake, where the Durmstrang ship was moored, reflected blackly in the water. It was a chilly morning, and they kept moving, munching on their toast. Y/N and Harry explained to Hermione what had happened the night before, as she had already gone to the girls dormitories when they had returned. Harry looked very visibly relieved when Hermione told him that she, like Y/N, believed him.

"... I don't thing any student could have done it..." pondered Hermione. "... they'd never be able able to fool the Goblet, or get over Dumbledore's -"

"Have you seen Ron?" Harry interrupted.

Hermione hesitated. Y/N suddenly looked murderous.

"Erm... yes... he was at breakfast," Hermione said.

"Does he still think I entered myself?"

"Well...no, I don't think so... not really - " said Hermione awkwardly.

"Yes. Yes he does." Y/N interrupted firmly. "Isn't it obvious, Harry? He's jealous."

"Jealous?" said Harry incredulously. "Jealous of what? He wants to make a prat of himself in front of the whole school, does he?"

"Look," said Hermione patiently, "it's always you who gets all the attention, you know it is. We know it's not your fault," she added quickly, after seeing Harry's mouth open furiously. "We know you don't ask for it... but - well - you know, Ron's got all those brothers to compete against at home, and you're his best friend, and you're really famous - he's always shunted to one side whenever people see you, and he puts up with it, and he never mentions it, but I suppose this is just one time too many..."

"Stop justifying his actions, Hermione." said Y/N coldly.

Hermione looked up. Y/N was staring out onto the lake, his eyes seemed far and distant. When he spoke, there was an almost merciless tone that sent shivers down her spine.

"What Ron is doing is absolutely unforgivable." Y/N said, still looking out into the lake. "If he disliked being with Harry that much, he shouldn't have become his friend in the first place. Look at me, for crying out loud, I'm Harry's polar opposite, I get hate from the entire goddamn school, would he rather be in my shoes? Harry's better off without him. He doesn't need greedy, selfish pricks influencing him."

"You don't get to decide that, Y/N," said Hermione sternly. "You're not his parent."

"Technically, I am his uncle." Y/N reminded her. "I should have some right of responsibility over him."

"Oh, shut up," said Harry, cringing. "Don't remind me."

Despite the situation, they all let out amused chuckles.
