"So have you had any luck with that dating app yet?" Charlotte asked as she took a bite of her pasta bake.

Me and my two roommates, Charlotte and Tyler, sat around the coffee table in the living room of our apartment. This was one of the only times we spent together other than at school since we were all in the same class.

"Yeah, I'm very curious too though I'm always being nosy when it comes to people's love lives," Tyler cut in, speaking up from his placement on the floor.

"Well, so far everyone that I've matched with has either not been my type, asked for nudes or has left me on read after one conversation. So no. No luck." I sighed, sinking back into the sofa.

"You know, I could always set you and my friend up on a date. She's also looking for a partner and I think she'd be your type," Charlotte offered. She picked up her phone, seemingly ready to message her friend. I shook my head.

"I'd like to find someone on my own. Thanks though."

"Suit yourself." Just then, my phone dinged. It was set on the coffee table so the other two could see it as well.

Being the nosy bastards they are, they peered over at it. Since it was my phone, I looked at it too. It was from the dating app. I had apparently matched with someone. Charlotte squealed in excitement and Tyler smirked.

"Well, look at it!" Charlotte urged, picking my phone up and throwing it at me. I barely caught it before it hit my face and fell in my pasta. I did not want to ruin my pasta. This was one of the rare meals that we had that was home cooked and wasn't a Tesco's meal deal.

I rolled my eyes at the two who were looking at me expectantly and unlocked my phone. I took a look at the person's profile. They were a he for a start. I'm not going to lie, he was very attractive.

Tyler got up and leaned over the back of the sofa and Charlotte peered over my shoulder.

"Okay he's hot. Girl you had better not let this one go. Although his 'about' section seems a bit dodgy. That English doesn't seem the best to me," Tyler commented.

I read it and it was written in broken English. I shrugged it off and sent a message to the guy.

Hey

We waited a few seconds before he started typing.

Hello. Sorry if my English isn't the best, I'm Japanese so English isn't my first language.

That explains the broken English. Thank fuck my cousin was Japanese. She had taught me how to speak it and in turn, I taught her English. It also helped when I would fly there to visit her and her mum for Christmas.

"Hey dont you know Japanese? Y'know, from your cousin?" Tyler asked.

"I do. Remind me to send a message to Hitoka later to thank her." I nodded.

Oh, no that's fine. We can speak in Japanese if you want.

Thank you. It's a lot easier for me.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you learn to speak it so fluently?

My cousin is Japanese. My entire family from my mum's side is.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense.

Well, should we start with proper introductions?

Sure. Why not?

I'll go first. My name's Y/N L/N.  It's a pleasure to meet you.
