"Good Morning Y/N," my AI Friday communicated, whilst my curtains were drawn open.
"Friday, what time is it?" I asked, rolling over away from the bright windows.
"It is currently 8:00am." Friday said.
"Ugh, I don't remember setting an alarm, Friday," I complained, getting back under my covers.
"Your father arranged for a wake up call at 8:00am because you were being 'lazy'", Friday said, quoting my father.
I scoffed and sat up in my bed. As usual, no phone notifications. I sighed and rose to my feet steadily before walking to the bathroom to look presentable. Once I finished changing, I walked out my door to the kitchen to greet whoever was awake.
"Hey it actually worked!" my dad celebrated from the kitchen, seeing my arrival.
"Did it? You know I'm just disable the wake up call," I said back, opening the fridge.
"Then I'll just reset it and override your control. You see, you can't outsmart the guy who taught you what you know," he said, gesturing to the entire floor in a dramatic way.
"Not everything, but sure. Got any meetings today?" I asked while pulling out ingredients for French toast.
"As a matter of fact, all the Avengers are coming over here at 12:00pm for a meeting so why don't you work on some stuff in your room then?" he asked. He never made this request until he caught me trying to listen in once. Who was a gonna tell though?
"Jokes on you, I do have lots of important stuff to do, instead of sitting around listening in on your stupid meetings," I mused, hints of sarcasm. Dad gave me a look, but seriously what did he expect.
"Seriously though, It's rare that everyone is together anymore. Someone's always got a personal mission to tend to or some shit," I swore, turning back to the pan.
"LANGUAGE!" Steve yelled from the living room. I winced slightly, forgetting he was visiting us.
"Sorry!" I yelled back. I rolled my eyes and went back to making French toast.
"Wait. YOU'RE cooking?! Why....?" my dad asked suspiciously assuming I wanted something.
However this time I did actually want something.
"Can't I just cook because I'm a great chef and incredibly hungry?" I remarked back.
"Hon, you have many talents, and we both know cooking isn't one of them," he laughed. I turned around and pretended to be offended.
"Okay fine. But, you can't say no until I have finished talking. I prepared a whole argument," I caved.
"Wouldn't expect anything less. Go for it!"
I took a deep breath. This was a big deal. I had done so much research for weeks, coming up with the PERFECT persuasive points that would surely convince him to let me go to school.
"Alright. So you have made it clear that I am not allowed to leave, or have my own identity outside of this tower, because of my safety. As much as I have appreciated that, and hey I'm still here so I guess it works, I feel that it is time for a change. I'm already 16, and I don't have friends my age, which is kind of depressing when you think about it, and I would really like to have a real high school experience, like you did! But, I wouldn't even be sacrificing my safety either. We could easily give me a fake name and identity, and I could go to school without anyone knowing I'm a Stark! And, I have already picked out the perfect school! *ahem* Midtown High School of Science and Technology. It has a great academic record, as well as it might challenge me (but probably not). Oh! Also, It's close by, only like a 30 minute drive. And, what I think will be your favorite part; after I did some research, I found that there is a superhero in the same neighborhood as the school. They go by 'Spider-Man' if you want to look him up (the news articles about him are SICK). That way, if you are concerned about my safety around Queens, there will be a superhero nearby in any case of danger. Annddd I think that's all my points!" I breathed.
My dad had a questioning look on his face the entire time, but his expression changed slightly with each bit of information I presented. I was prepared for him to just flat out say no, but to my surprise he was actually considering it. Maybe. I held my breath in suspense.
"Y/N, although you made good points, I'm still unsure about letting my only daughter out into the world, without me right there in case something happens." he sighed.
"Dad, I'll be fine as long as no one knows who I really am. And didn't you hear, Spider-Man is in the same city! I'm sure it will be safe!"
My dad flinched a little at my statement, but I ignored it.
"You can't risk all your safety because of this one kid!" he said.
"How do you know he is a kid? Spider MAN dad. He's probably in his 20's to 30's," I guessed.
"He's a new superhero, so he's inexperienced...like a kid. And I don't feel comfortable putting your safety into his slippery.... sticky....little-kid hands," he emphasized.
"I'll be fine! I have my self defense training from Natasha, and the odds that I'll even be attacked at all is low, as long as no one knows who I really am and I stay away from men with free candy. Spider-Man is just my safety net," I told my dad.
He digested what I said. I knew what was coming. I had dragged on the argument enough to get all my points across, but I had finally run dry. Now, he will say no, and I won't be able to argue more with him on it.
"...alright." he gave in.
"WAIT SERIOUSLY?!" I gasped. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"Yes seriously. I can have you enrolled tomorrow under a fake name, but you have to prove to me that you can take care of yourself out there," he pointed an index finger at me.
"I will! Thanks, you are the BEST dad ever!" I exclaimed giving him a hug.
"I really am. Now finish the French toast, I'm starving!" he smiled. I turned back hesitantly to see they burned.
"I am too!" Steve yelled from the other room. I weakly smiled as I served them the burned toast mess.
"Just scrape off the blackened parts," I reassured as I got a plate for myself.
None the less, I couldn't help but smile to myself at the thought of going to school, making friends and having a normal life.
"Why's someone so smiley?" Nat asked, as she noticed me.
"Younger Stark is going to high school tomorrow," Steve told her. I set the plate of French toast down at the table.
"What?! Tony, what about the whole schpeel about her safety? All of that out the window for some burned toast?" she asked my dad.
"Hey! I'll have you know I had a whole argument planned out which won him over," I smirked.
"What can I say? She did her research. The city she is attending school in even has its own superhero," he told her. Nat looked at him and squinted.
"Huh. Well, I guess that's one way to convince your father of things," she said before biting into her food.
The usual talk began, but I zoned out. I was just focusing on my first day of school tomorrow.
