~Bucky's POV~

"I don't think that's appropriate."  I pouted at Amelie as she adjusted her top.

"I just think the parents would think it's weird you would wear that to a parents evening."

"Why? It's my Steve top?" I looked back down at the baggy sweatshirt with a cartoon of Steve's WW2 advert printed across it.

"Bucky, it's a parents evening-"

"And your point is?"

Amelie pursed her lips, before dissolving into a fit of giggles. "Fine, but I'm not explaining why you're wearing that when the parents ask."

"Well you're wearing Sams badge!" I gestured to the pin on the strap of her bag, of the annoying metal bird that flew around Sam whenever he fought.

"He made it for me for my birthday if you have already forgotten." She placed her hands on my knees and leant forward, her lips sweetly pressing against mine. I sunk further into the bed, before she leant back. "Like you did."

"I didn't forget about your birthday-"

"It's just in the post, I know." She smiled weakly, and turned to fluff her hair. "I'll wait downstairs."

My heart shattered as she slipped out of the room.

After the revelation that Sue had known D'Arcys birth parents, I had been intent on tracking her down and interrogating her. But she had phoned into work claiming she was sick and was taking a months recovery.

And then she disappeared.

I called by her home, rang the contact numbers, even searched familiar places she had mentioned before, but she had gone. I called the police to scan the shed in the woods for more prints, specifically of Sues, but they argued that it wasn't worth their time.

In the moment, whilst trying to solve the mystery, I had missed Amelies birthday.

She'd woken me up with an expectant kiss, smiling up at me as she waited for me to wish her a happy birthday. When it didn't come she had slunk out of the room to get ready for the day.

When I reached the kitchen, I saw a small pile of decorated presents.

I knew I had messed up.

I told her a present was on its way, but I could tell she knew I was lying, but I didn't know how to fix it! I had messed up big time and it was obviously hurting her that I hadn't come up with something to give her yet.

I trudged downstairs, and wrapped my arms around her small frame as she gulped down a mug of tea. "I love you."

She twisted in my arms, snuggling into my chest as she kissed my jumper. "I love you too."

"I promise a present is coming-"

She glanced up at me, her eyes wide as she gently traced my chin with her fingertip. "Bucky, being with you is the happiest I have ever been. You've given me safety, security, a home, a family..." her smile turned wicked as she hooked her arms around my neck, her lips hovering above mine. "Why don't you book a nice room, away for a weekend, and we can celebrate. In private."

The hair on my neck flared as she traced her lips over mine, her cheeks tinting pink from her own suggestion, before she stepped back and tugged a pair of shoes on. "Come on, we're going to be late."

"You can't do that." I huffed as I trailed behind her. "Tease me like that then announce we need to leave."

"Tough shit you didn't get me a present." She stuck her tongue out at me, before swinging around to wave at David and River who were sat on the sofas.
