The next day, we all woke up pretty exhausted. Mia and Gabi were staying here until they flew out to visit Lyric later today. Anna was still sleeping when I woke up. My arms were wrapped around her and I didn't want to move and wake her up. I could feel her breathing slow, her hand still lightly holding onto mine even in her sleep. It was the most comforting thing I've experienced, knowing that even in her sleep, she was still holding onto me. I don't know why it was so nice, it just was. I tried to slowly slip away, moving my arm inch by inch until she adjusted on her own and I was free. I got up and started cleaning the house for her. A few moments later, I heard her sliding her feet across the kitchen floor.
"Hey, what are you doing in here?" I heard her ask as she walked in.
"Good morning, I'm just cleaning up." I smiled. "I wanted to make sure you got enough sleep."
"You don't have to do that, you took care of everything last night. Let me do this." She rubbed her eyes. I picked her up and sat her on the counter.
"I really don't mind." I looked into her still tired eyes and thought I'd drown in them. She gave me a sleepy smile and I leaned in, kissing her lips softly.
"Well at least let me help." She gave me a quick hug and we started cleaning.
A little while later, we were basically done cleaning. Mia and Gabi were awake when we walked into bedroom.
"Good morning." Mia yawned.
"Morning." Gabi gave a wave.
"So, what are we doing until you guys leave?" Anna plopped down on her bed. I sat down next to her, rubbing her leg.
"We should all go play putt putt, grab some food too?" Mia said as she got up. "My flights in like 5 hours."
"4 actually." Gabi said as she got up to walk into the bathroom. "I'm totally down for that!" She smiled.
"I am too, I think it'd be fun." I nodded and Anna did too.
"You leave tomorrow, right?" Gabi asked from the bathroom.
My heart dropped. I leave tomorrow. I don't even have a plan of when to see Anna again. Anna looked at me and her eyes were glossy, I could see how upset she was thinking about it. I felt the goosebumps on her thighs. I tried to say something before she got up.
"Uh...yeah. I wasn't even thinking about that." I let out a breath.
"I'm gonna go make us some coffee." Anna went to the kitchen. I could hear her sniff as she went down the hallway. My heart hurt more for her than it did for myself.
"I'm sorry, I didn't me-" I cut Gabi off.
"Gabi, it's fine. Don't even worry about it." I assured.
"That does suck, I'm sorry Ag." Mia gave me a half smile.
"Guys, let's not even think about it. I'll be back. I-I...I don't know when but, I'll be back." I looked down and took a breath. Gabi sat down beside me and Mia went to the kitchen to comfort Anna.
"We can figure something out. Why don't you stay longer?" She asked.
"I'm supposed to go back to Florida soon and stay with Soph and Avery." I sighed. I was so excited to go back and see them, but I can't stand being away from Anna. "Not to mention, Anna is about to start college and I'm about to finish up with school."
"You guys can figure something out. I know it sucks to leave, but I promise you guys will be able to see each other again soon." She rubbed my back and gave me a hug.
We heard what sounded like glass breaking and Mia came back looking worried.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
"She's inconsolable. I mean she's like having a breakdown." She didn't know what to do.
I got up and ran to the kitchen, as I got closer I could hear her sobbing and sniffling.
"Anna?" I ran in to see her sitting on the floor. "Anna, come here." I sat down next to her.
I put my arm around her shoulder. She lifted her head and laid it on my shoulder as she hugged me, snot and all. I squeezed her as tight as I could.
"I don't want you to leave." She cried into me and I broke. I didn't want to leave either.
"I know, but I can come back. I don't know when but, I can come back." I hugged her tight.
"Please just stay. Don't leave, Ag please." I felt tears forming in my eyes, knowing I'd have to tell her I couldn't stay. It broke my heart to hurt hers.
"Go with me to Florida." I said and she lifted her head up.
"My mom is never gonna let that happen." She laid her head back on my shoulder but her crying had stopped.
A tear slowly rolled down my face.
"Are you crying?"
"I mean, yeah..." I wiped my cheek.
"I felt it on my nose." We both laughed. She looked up and we smiled and I lightly kissed her head
"Thank you, you always make things better." She hugged me tight. Her warmth soothing whatever sadness I had in me.
"Of course, boon. That's my job." I hugged her back and laid my head on hers. We sat in silence for a few moments, enjoying each other's company.
Mia and Gabi walked in hesitantly a couple moments later. Mia looked at me making sure it was all clear. Anna's eyes were closed as she laid on my shoulder. I nodded my head and Mia made a noise to signal they were in the room. Anna's head shot up.
"I'm sorry." She blurted out.
"It's okay, I can't wait to see what I look like leaving lyric." Mia joked.
"I can't wait to deal with that." Gabi laughed.
