It was a grand party. At least a hundred people were drinking, dancing, laughing and celebrating. The guests wore shiny dresses and expensive suits and smiles almost as bright as the light of the chandeliers on the ceiling.

Everyone was happy. And they had all reason to be. It was the 35. birthday of one of the most successful businessmen of New Orleans. His name was Elijah Mikaelson and his business partners knew him as a fair and honest man. In addition, he was very caring when it came to his family. So, as he was turning 35 today, his siblings threw him a big party and invited all his friends, family and coworkers.

The only person who was not happy and celebrating was the man of the hour himself.

Elijah stood on a balcony with an exquisite view over the city. He looked anything but happy.

After a while, his brother Klaus came to check on him.

"There you are! You know, people are starting to wonder where you have gone."
Klaus knew his brother. He knew, if Elijah felt ready to talk to him about what was wrong, he would. But pressuring him right away would do no good.

Elijah remained silent for a minute. Then he sighed and said: "Let them wonder. I don't want to deal with them right now." Something in his words told Klaus that something was really wrong. He came closer to look at his brother and waited until he met his eyes before asking: "Brother, please tell me what's wrong."

With another sigh, Elijah considered and finally took a small box out of his suit jackett. He opened it revealing a beautiful diamond ring. Klaus gasped in disbelief.

"Yes, brother. I was going to propose to Katerina. Tonight. But when I went looking for her, I found her in a sideroom kissing another man."

Neither his face nor his demeanor showed any emotion when he said those words. Klaus, however, knew his brother better than anyone. He knew how angry and hurt Elijah actually was.

"She was using you, brother! You did not want to see it, but she was. I am sorry it had to end like this, but I cannot say I am not pleased you two are over. Maybe the next woman of yours will be better."

Elijah gave his brother a scolding look. "You speak as if every girlfriend I ever had was awful. That is not true!" he said.

"Oh yeah?" Klaus replied. "Let's see about that, shall we? Now, there was Aya,"

"She wasn't so bad." Elijah pointed out.
"Maybe not while you dated, but do you remember the hell she summoned up when you broke up with her?"
Elijah was quiet.

"Then there was Celeste," Klaus continued,

"Admittedly not the best one."

"Hayley,"

"May I remind you that it was you who had a child with her?"

"and last but not least Katerina. You seem to have a weakness for the wicked ones, brother." Klaus smirked. "As for your comment, I had a one-night-stand with Hayley that accidentaly resulted in her getting pregnant. I never intended to have a long term relationship with her like you." Klaus' last words did not surprise Elijah. He knew his brother. Klaus never had serious relationships.

Elijah gave no response to his brother's words. Which didn't stop Klaus from speaking his mind. "By the way, I don't think you ever even met Katerina's family."

"That's because she does not have much of a family. She is an orphan. The only family she still has is her sister. And she and Katerina are not close. Katerina told me, her sister got her certificate in medicine mainly through fraud. I wanted to ask the chief of the hospital she works at to check her record. It would be easy enough for me, given the fact that she works at a hospital I help funding." Elijah looked at his brother, with determination in his eyes now.

"I will see if that sister of hers is any trouble. And it will be the last thing I ever do for Katerina."

Elena Gilbert opened the door. The woman standing in front of it was Caroline. Elena smiled and gave her friend a warm hug.
"Hi Care, you're just in time! Bonnie just finished making hot chocolate."

Caroline hugged her back and responded: "Gosh, do you remember the time when we had some real drinks on girls night? Like tequila shots and margharitas?" Elena laughed. "You mean, before Bonnie first got pregnant? Not sure, really."

The two women went into the living room of Elena's apartment. Caroline dropped her bag next to the couch after taking a bag of cookies out. Bonnie came out of the kitchen and joined them.

"Hey Care!" Bonnie said and warmly hugged the her friend, as far as her baby bump allowed it. "Are you okay? You look stressed." she asked the blonde woman eyeing her with a worried expression.
"It's nothing. Just boy drama." Caroline sighed. "Tyler had to work late again."

"Seriously? When does he ever not have to work late?" Bonnie asked.
"Apparently, his boss is a total ass. Not that that's any surprise! I mean, he always makes him work late. I can count the days on which my boyfriend came home on time on the fingers of one hand." Caroline responded.

It was not the first time Caroline told them about Tyler never having time, always having to work and his boss constantly pushing him around. They kept talking about Caroline's life for a while, with their hot chocolate and the cookies Caroline had brought. But of course, they did not forget to talk about Bonnie, Elena and their friends too. Elena was currently going through her intern year at a local hospital. Whereas Bonnie and her husband Lorenzo, called Enzo, were having a hard time preparing for the birth of their second child while trying to keep their 4-year-old son from breaking their furniture; Jesse really liked to throw things.

The evening went on. the three friends spent a few nice hours in Elena's apartment. Apart from a few ugly details, their lives seemed to be going perfect. With no complications in sight whatsoever.

Hi! 🙂

I thought, I would try writing an Elejah and Klaroline story. This was the result. After withdrawing it from Wattpad for a while, I am now reposting it. Hope you enjoy it.

If you have any thoughts on the plots, the characters or whatsoever, I am always happy about comments. 🙂
