Zephyr's POV

"Ohhhh... Osmund... I'm so sorry," I told him as he buried his face in his hands.

The strong smell of salt filled the air. And it was all I needed, to know that tears were falling from his eyes. I immediately wrapped my arms around him.

"How?" he asked me as his voice cracked.

"How what?" I questioned him as I pulled back.

"How are you so okay with this? Why don't you care?" he asked as he looked up at me with red-rimmed eyes.

"I'm not. I'm not okay that he makes you feel this way. I care 'm not okay that his actions have hurt you. I do care that he is your father," I replied and he winced. "I care because he makes you hurt. And I will never be okay with that." Scales had sprouted and my wings were spreading wide as my anger flared.

Pine and vanilla hit my nose like a slap to the face as I shifted completely. My blues eyes narrowed and my wings flared even wider as I curled my tail around him. My protective side showing.

"Zeph!" he squeaked out as I curled around him. "This. Is. Un. Necessary."

Every one of my senses were on high alert, as per usual whenever I shifted. My ears detected someone rushing up the stairs, while my nose picked up on the fact that it was Nuffink. I could hear my parents downstairs as well.

When I had used my senses to check the entire area, I stood up and shook out my wings before shifting back. Osmund immediately took deep, gasping breaths. I winced.

"Sorry," I told him.

"Not... Your... Fault," he replied as he finally got enough air in his lungs. "Instincts... Family... High alert... Etcetera."

"It helps if you breathe in through your mouth and out through your nose," I told him as I sat back down. He did so and started to calm down.

"KIDS!" mom shouted.

Osmund and my eyes met and we laughed. She'd spotted Nuffink's sheep deer.

We walked down stairs while being unable to control our giggles.

When we spotted the sheep deer with some of the paint rubbed off it made us laugh even harder.

"What happened to our kitchen!" she asked us.

I managed to say, "They're deer, but Osmund and I call them sheep deer." before I fell into uncontrolable laughter.

"They're deer..." dad said slowly.

It was then that Nuffink decided to walk down the stairs.

"I'm guessing this was you," dad said, exhausted. He nodded. "Just one day. I just want one day," he muttered to himself. "Just clean it up, alright?"

We all stared at him. When he walked out of the room mom said, "he needs a day off. So tomorrow, you three are going to go hang out with your cousins. And I'll ask Valka to take care of the village."

"That sounds good. He deserves it," Osmund said.

"Maybe I should make him some Yaknog, too," she wondered out loud.

Our heads whipped towards her before we shouted, "NOOOOOO!!!"

She blinked at us in shock as she saw our disgusted faces.

"Zeph are you okay, you're looking a little green," mom said.

"I feel like throwing up," I replied. "Do dad a favour, don't, whatever you do, give him Yaknog."
