Jason clenched his jaw and his fist as he watched her from across the room, it was another of Bruce's stupid galas. God how he loathed them, he couldn't stand them yet some how he was always forced into a suit and forced to seem happy.

"Just go talk to her" Dick whispered in his ear causing Jason to jump in surprise

"N-no! That's dumb!" Jason shook his head and downed his fourth glass of champagne. He couldn't even think of a reason that Bruce would invite her.

He despised himself for missing her, how cold his bed felt without her and her furnace like body heat, it didn't matter that she hogged the blankets, all Jason had to do was pull her close and he'd be alright. He missed how beautiful the stars looked when he gazed at them with her, without her, they started to look the same.

Towards the end of the relationship that had started when they were sixteen and came to a freezing halt when they were twenty two, Jason could feel the change, that winter, it wasn't just the ground the froze, it was the love they shared.

"Jason!' Helena giggled as she ran around playing with Ace and Titus

"Come play!" The small eight year old yelled

"Not now Lena.." Jason moped as he trudged his way to his room in the manor, seeing her last night had put Jason back into a episode of sadness.

It was a few months before they had broke it off officially, Jason had been heavily drinking cause he felt alone, Y/N would slid into bed, give him a quick goodnight and that was that. No checking on him, no making sure he wouldn't do anything stupid, just a small goodnight and then lights out.

"It's going to be okay."

Jason said as he looked a himself in the mirror, he felt like he was getting over her, he didn't feel as sad as he normally did, but with Jason's luck, Y/n's name popped up on his caller ID,

"Fuck.." He groaned and gripped the edges of the sink, he watched as it went to voicemail before it flashed with her name on the screen once again. He sighed and picked it up.

 "Hello?" He said softly

"Jay?" She was clearly drunk

"I need you. I-' She hiccuped into the phone

"I ended up at that bar, the one that Roy took- took us too"

Jason pinched the bridge of his nose

"I got kicked out for almost fighting" She rambled

"And I- I got kicked out of my hotel room cause I lost the key card and I can't find my shoes."

She hiccuped again, her voice broke a little meaning she was about to cry, Jason almost let out a laugh

"Is that suppose to impress me or something? Fuck, Y/N, I don't know what you expect me to do.."

He knew what he needed to do, he just wanted to hear it from her.

"I need you to come pick me up.." Jason sighed softly

"Okay.. I'm coming.."

He watched her as she slept in the passenger seat, the gas light came on, he pulled into the gas station. As he got out, he shrugged off his jacket and laid it over her. He filled the gas tank before he got back in, she gently set her hand on his

"You're sweet, you know that?"

Her voice was soft as she spoke to him, a silver of a smile made its way to his face, it was that moment, he was sure, he wouldn't let her slip away this time, life wouldn't tear them apart. Their love wasn't an easy thing, because love wasn't meant to be easy. Work, sacrifice and protection are required, Jason wouldn't have it any other way, not now, not ever.

The morning sun peaked its way through his bedroom curtains as he carried her in his arms. Her arms were loosely hooked around his neck as he gently set her in bed, trying his best to not wake her. He moved the blanket to lay over her before he, himself laid next to her on top of the blanket. The sounds of the street seemed so far away at the moment, everything felt quiet and still. Jason was in it for the long haul, he'd put all the work he could into making this work, he wasn't going away.

The world was on the brink of becoming alive, the sun was slowly rising, the street lamps were shutting themselves off, wives were kissing their husbands goodbye as they left for work. Life is being lived, and responsibilities have due dates, but it can wait until tomorrow. Neither of them knows whats going to come next or where they will go from there or even what to say when they wake up. But it doesn't matter, they have each other. They are working on making it through tonight and worrying about everything else later.
