BUCKY'S POV
-1 day later-
I hadn't heard anything from Y/Ns apartment. I mean, I can hear things from 2 floors above me and now that I have a neighbor, I just figured I would hear something. I don't know why I'm worrying so much. She ran away from me. She realized who I was, and then took off and locked herself away. I should have known better than to try and open myself up that quickly. It has been 2 years since I've talked to anyone, and then I had this opportunity to finally do so, and then it bites me in the ass. I moved too fast. She asked me to be her friend within 10 minutes. Is that how it usually happens? I figured I would finally try to change from who I was before. Go from The Winter Soldier and make myself the Bucky I used to be, I think, at least what I'm trying to remember who I was. Nonetheless, I'm just trying to get rid of the person I know. But, maybe that's just who I am now. Pulled from my thoughts, I heard a yelp from next door. Don't be a hero, Buck. She doesn't want you as her hero. The yelp was then followed by a loud crash. I pushed my dinner away from me and walked over to the door. I placed my hand on the doorknob and hesitated. She has a boyfriend. He can help her.
"Get away!" I heard her yell. I grabbed my gun and put it in my belt and draped my shirt over it. I ripped open my door and walked over to her apartment. I knocked five times, hoping she remembered that it would be me. I heard some whispers and then someone walking over to the door, and a man answered.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"I-I'm James, I'm your neighbor." I said.
"What do you want?" He added. I really didn't like this guy. I tightened my jaw and then swallowed my pride.
"I heard a loud crash and I just wanted to make sure everything was okay." I said, sternly.
"Yeah everything is fine."
"I just heard someone say 'get away' so I just wanted to check." I said as my metal arm tightened in anger.
"Yeah no it's fine my girlfriend saw a rat." he told me.
"...are you sure she's okay?" I asked, knowing I've been here for 2 years and I've never seen a rat in my place, so there shouldn't be one in a clean apartment with no food in it.
"Dude what's your issue? I said we're fine. She's my girlfriend and I can handle her." he said, raising his voice. Don't do it, Buck. Don't do it. Without saying anything else, he started to close it. When he moved to the side, I saw Y/N sitting on the couch, holding her arm and crying. She looked up and me and then the door shut. I stayed where I was trying to douse the fire in my head. I walked back to my place and plopped down on the couch. I rested my head in my hands, conflicted about what to do. If I barged in and killed him, then I'm back to the old Bucky. If i don't do anything, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. If I do anything to hurt him, then he could go to the police and then these 2 years of trying to get my life back would have been for nothing. I leaned back onto the couch and shut my eyes and slowly fell asleep.
-3am-
I was jolted up by the sound of thunder. Well I guess that's enough sleep for the night. I walked over to the small balcony area I have and opened the door enough for light to peak in. It was pouring rain out. I sighed out loud, knowing I'd have some leaks in the morning from the shity windows in this place. I closed the door and decided I would go stand outside under the landing to get some fresh, cool air. I put on my hoodie and left my gloves inside. No one was going to be out there anyways. After walking down to the lobby, I stopped in my tracks because someone was already standing out there in the rain. I went to turn around but then I noticed that it was Y/N. I put my hands in the pocket of my hoodie and walked out there. Turns out, she was standing in the middle of the street.
"Better hope no cars come!" I yelled. She practically jumped out of her skin when she turned around.
"I'm sorry! Uh...what are you doing down here?" I asked.
"I could ask the same to you!" she replied.
"I'm down here for fresh air." I responded.
"Uh, so am I!'
"And a shower it looks like." I joked. She smiled, but then it quickly faded as she looked up to our floor.
"Your boyfriend doesn't know he's out here, does he?" I asked. She looked at me and then shook her head. She walked over to me and stood under the landing.
"He doesn't really like me leaving without me telling him." She told me.
"Is everything alright?" I asked.
"Yeah... he's just very protective."
"Is that why you were crying earlier? Because he was protecting you?"
"I saw a rat a-and it scared me."
"Enough for you to cry?"
"Listen, my life is a lot more complicated than you think, okay? We just met so I don't know why you need to know everything there is to know about me." She said, sternly. I was quiet for a moment because, maybe she was right. I don't need to pry into her life.
"Were you...trying to get away from him? Is that why you came out here?" I asked.
"This was a mistake." She whispered as she turned around to walk inside.
"I don't mean to pry-"
"Then why are you even asking?" She yelled before running up the stairs. Way to go Buck, you just drove away your first friend.
Y/Ns POV
I opened the door to my apartment and closed the door as slowly as I could. I turned around and I saw Simon sitting on the couch. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. He got up and walked over to me and pressed his body against mine and held me to the wall.
"Why were you outside?" He asked.
"I wanted to get some air."
"Then open a window." he said.
"....I'm sorry." I whispered. He leaned in close to my ear;
"I know how you can make it up to me." He said before kissing my neck. This always happens.
