Cassie took a deep breath before she started to tell her story, a story she swore to never share with anyone, but Kaz wasn't just anyone.

Cassie's life started out so blissful and perfect, it was hard to look back on it and realise that it was all gone, that they were all gone.
She lived in a reasonable sized house that had a wrap around porch and the outside was painted a cheerful shade of yellow. She remembered playing in the back garden with her sibling as her father and mother watched from their deckchairs and drank iced lemonade. It all seemed so cliché now when she looked back on it but there wasn't anything she wouldn't give to go back to that.
From the outside world no one would have suspected anything, and if they did they never could have guessed that Mr and Mrs Cooke were also known as The Firelight Two, that's right Cassie's parents were the legendary pyrokinetic couple. Separately, they both have level ten powers, but together their powers combined to make level 12. They made solar flare look like a sparkler show and they were the fireworks, which of course they could make with ease which was a good money saver every Fourth of July and New Years. They were role models to Cassie and Alex, who would soon follow in their parents footsteps to become a great superhero Binary.

There was one fateful evening that destroyed the Cooke family. The wind howled loudly on a dark gloomy night. The thatched windows creaked as the gales opened and slammed them shut, the pitter patter of cold feet on even colder tiles filled the house as Cassie went from one window to another locking them.
Cassie yelped in pain as she stepped closer to the last window, she squinted through the dark and saw the outline of a pool of blood that was flowing from her foot, it encompassed the broken glass that had fallen from the strangely locked window. She stepped backwards in confusion, her heart began to beat so fast she swore it could have exploded, she was about to call for her parents when her voice became muffled by a leathery hand that wrapped around her mouth. She struggled to get out of the grasp, Cassie tried to teleport away but as she did her vision went dark - and not just from the night sky.

Flashes of blurry images were hard for Cassie to make out as she strained her eyes. Her head was spinning and she could feel the bump throbbing from where she was knocked out. She was strapped to a silver table that was set vertically. There was needles that pumped a mysterious black liquid into her veins,to her left she could make out that her sibling and parents were strapped to similar tables but received no black liquid transfusions. Cassie tried to move her hand to console her heavy head but her wrists became sore by the leather straps.

A silhouette appeared from the shadowy corner of the lab, a tall man dressed in a long lab coat made his way to a metal table covered in a verity of dissecting and torturous tools.

"who-who are you?" Cassie croaked.

Squeaky Black plastic gloves started sharpening a large steel knife, the silhouette turned towards her, his eyebrow raised in suspicion, "you, little missy, shouldn't be awake yet. My formula must be working better than accepted."

"what do you want with my family?"

"your family? Nothing. With you... Well that's a different question. You see originally I broke into your house to take your parents, the firelight two, right? I've been researching them for years there genetic code is unlike anything I have ever seen before, the fact that they can link up their powers to become stronger, smarter, more efficient. I thought that if I could get my hands on them I could enhance my formula to such a level it would make me invincible...
But, then, I got to the house and you, little missy, was there and you have even greater genetic material than both your parents, and sibling combined. You, you, are a DNA marvel, I found that I don't have to kill you and take all your blood and drain it into my formula."

"so your not going to kill me?"

"oh, no, weren't you listening? I don't have to anymore. Your abilities allow me to put the formula into your bloodwork, and even better your blood will copy my formula and create an even greater version of it. It's incredible, it's like your body is its own laboratory, formula generator. You are the source of my formula. If I keep you alive I can take your blood whenever I want for the rest of your life, you're my own everlasting flame."

" well seen as you only want me let my family go, they have nothing to do with this."

"well I suppose I could, but wheres the fun in that? When they wake up and figure you're gone they may come after me. I won't take that risk. Far easier for me to just kill them."

"you're sick."

The man let out a chuckle as he shook his head and looked back at his steel, clean cut knives.
Cassie's arm began to twitch and flicker in and out of existence as the last drop of formula entered her blood stream. Her heart was beating so fast that she could have sworn that it was going to explode. Cassie steadied her breathing as she felt the power surge through her veins.
Cassie had never felt anything like this before, she had always had her teleportation powers and she could always feel that power inside her. But now it was different, she felt more powerful, more forceful, more... Unstable. It wasn't just the teleportation she could feel, though, there was more inside her, more power and abilities than she could ever imagine having. Cassie knew at that moment she'd never be just a level 7 teleporter again.

Cassie looked down at the leather cuffs, with a blink of an eye she teleported her wrists through them. She was free, at least she was going to be. Cassie ripped out the needle that was pumping the formula and immediately regretted it, it wasn't as cool as it looked in the movies. She held her arm expecting a needle wound but when she looked down it was completely healed. Weird. She had never been able to heal before. Elegantly, she jumped down from the table, her feet silently hitting the ground, remaining unnoticed.
Cassie moved closer to her sibling and started un strapping their cuffs, picking them up she teleported away with her sibling comfortably in her arms.

There was an abandoned old park with a quaint seesaw and swing set that Alex and Cassie always go to, it was their special place. They knew if anything went wrong to always go there. So in this time Cassie only thought it right to send them there. Cassie carefully placed her sibling under an oak tree, she brushed the hair out of their face before teleporting back into that steel infused hell hole.

When she jumped back into the room she was looking directly at the man, her parents had disappeared but the faint smell of blood lingered in the air. "where are my parents?" Cassie spat, her eyes stung with the threat of tears but she did not want her waterline to break.

"can't you smell it? The iron, the blood? I think you can guess what has happened. You may have saved your sibling but in doing so you never get to see your parents again. You should have jumped with all of them, you can do that now you know? So if you think about it, their lives were on your hands and well we see where that got them."

Dread and guilt made Cassie want to throw up, the thought of her parents deaths being her fault was too much to handle," you'll pay for this, you didn't have to kill them."

"maybe not, but what did you expect to happen? Really?"

"and then, there was a flash, and that's it. That's my story." Cassie retold.
