I hate to tell you this, but unless your team does something to bring you back home you are stuck here. There is a very real possibility that you might not be able to go back home...

Those words echoed over and over again in Scout's head like a broken record. He didn't want to believe that his situation was that bad. He didn't want to accept the idea that he could be stuck in another world unable to ever go home. However, the more he thought about it the more he realized just how screwed he really was. The girl already said her world didn't have any transporter technology. There wasn't anyone here that could build him a teleporter. If the girl was telling the truth, there was no magic user like Merasmus running around that he could go to either. There was no one in this world that could help him get home.

It's not like he could build a teleporter himself. He was no Engineer. He had no idea how the things worked. The most he ever had to know was how to activate it. All you had to do was stand on a teleporter, and as long as it was connected to another teleporter you were good to go. Scout had heard Engineer talk about the inner workings of his teleporter a few times with Medic during meal times, but everything they said went so far over Scout's head they might as well have been speaking another language. There was no way Scout could build a teleporter. Even if he could make a teleporter would he even be able to make one that connected to his world? The only reason that weird teleporter was able to zap him into another world was because Merasmus had used magic on the stupid thing.

He really was stuck here, and there wasn't a thing a could do about it.

Scout could feel a bit of panic start to grow inside him at that thought. Was this it? Was he just stuck in another world for the rest of his life all alone?

He would never get to see his brothers again. Sure, some of his brothers drove him absolutely insane, but he still loved them. They were family. They were the only family that Scout had. It had always just been Scout, Scout's brothers, and their Ma against the world. The idea that he might never see his brothers again left him suddenly feeling very alone. Heck, just thinking of his brothers made him realize that if he wasn't able to get home he would never see his Ma again.

Would someone tell her that he was gone? If he wasn't able to return home would someone tell her that he died? Would his family end up holding a funeral for him without a body? Or would no one from his job ever tell his family what happened to him. Would his mother only figure out that something was wrong when Scout's letters home stopped coming in? Would she and his brothers be left forever wondering what happened to him?

Maybe it was a bit quick for him to be jumping to the worst case scenario here, but he couldn't help it. When the idea that he might not be able to get home really sunk in his mind immediately started coming up with one bleak thought after another with no signs of stopping. His worry must have been very clear on his face because the girl was quick to snap him out of his thoughts when he heard the girl start to speak.

"I'm sorry."

He glanced over at the girl only to see that she was giving him a sympathetic look.

"I know everything about your situation sucks. I know it can't be pleasant to hear that there isn't really anything you or I can do to get you home. I'm sorry that I have to tell you the bad news, and I'm sorry that I can't do anything to get you home."

Scout just shook his head.

"Don't be sorry. Not like any of this is your fault." He gave her a weak smile as he said "Had to hear the bad news sooner or later."

The girl sighed a little upon hearing that, but she quickly gave him what looked like an attempt at a reassuring smile.

"It's..." The girl started to say only to trail off.
