HEARTBEAT

"Ms. Summer Caringal? It's your turn ma'am"

Kaagad akong tumayo at pumasok sa clinic ng doctor na kakilala ni Aldrina.

Its been weeks since I got here in London, and I'm still adjusting! Especially the climate!

Based from my check-up last week, I'm now 6 weeks pregnant. So, I hope that I could hear my baby's heartbeat here right now.

"Good morning, Ms or Mrs Caringal. I am Mrs Darem, nice to meet you." She said with a British accent and smiled friendly at me.

She made me sit on one of the chairs inside of the room and discussed some stuffs about my pregnancy.

She said that it's normal to have some cramps and breast's soreness including the morning sickness. Well, I already know about that.

But, I still listened carefully and took notes of what I can do and I can't.

My heart doubled it's pace when she said that it's time for my ultrasound.

I laid down on a hospital bed and took a deep breath.

"Relax, mommy. I promise you this will go smoothly as it is." The doctor said while laughing.

I released a deep breath and gasped when I felt that she inserted something on my core and I felt that it stung a little bit.

As far as I can remember, that's the device where I can here my baby's heartbeat.

She tried to avert my attention on the feeling by telling me some cool stories and fun facts about baby's developments.

"I see, I wis--"

I froze and stopped talking when a faint beats filled the room.

"Here that? That's your baby's heartbeat." The doctor told me bubbly.

My eyes watered because of the heart-warming melody that is circling around my ears.

I am now cherishing two heartbeats. One is Isaiah's and the second is from my little angel.

I sniffed and pulled the handkerchief from my purse to wife my tears and I immediately calmed myself after realizing that Mrs Darem is smiling at me while watching my reactions intently.

"Sorry bout that. I just got so emotional." I sniffed and laughed awkwardly.

"No it's fine. I'm used to this. Mostly when the couples or the mother got to hear their baby's heartbeat for the first time, they're immediately tearing up and they can't help but to cry and be emotional." The kind doctor explained.

If I could just record this moment I already did. And I also wished that Isaiah is here so he can personally hear his angel's heartbeats.

I looked upon the monitor and saw a tiny baby figure on it.

"See that? That's your baby. When your already in your fifth month, we can clearly tell his or her gender!" Mrs Darem exclaimed

After that she did run some tests and declared that I am six weeks pregnant. As what I've said earlier.

Of course I scheduled my another ultrasound and regular check-ups and also requested her highly recommended vitamins and milk for me.

She willingly told me what I need and bid me a goodbye.

I am clearly in a good mood for shopping. And besides, maybe I can buy some unisex onesies for my angel?

I can't helped but to be excited because of what I've thought.

Natawa ako nga maalalang dala ko ang credit card ni Samuel.

But, hindi ba mat-trace yon? Well, I have Dawn by my side tho. Its fine.

Hindi nalang yung black card ang ibinigay. Babayaran din naman ni Isaiah panigirado kung anong gagastusin ko sa card na to.

Pumara ako ng cab at nagpa baba sa malapit na mall.

Matapos kong magbayad ay nagpasalamat muna ako bago bumaba.

Kaagad akong pumunta sa food court para mamili ng miryenda ko. Nagutom ako bigla sa byahe.

Nag-order lang ako ng cheese burger at isang malaking baso ng milk tea dahil bigla akong nag-crave sa blueberry cheesecake na milk tea.

"Excuse me. Can I sit here?"

Napatigil ako sa paglamon ng makarinig my panglalaking boses sa harap ko.

Napa-angat ako ng tingin at napa-amang ng makita ang isang gwapong lalaki na may mga asul na mata sa harap ko.

Inilibot ko ang tingin sa food court at napatango ng makitang lahat ng upuan at lamesa sa occupied na.

Tumango ako sa saka nagpunas muna ako ng bibig bago magsalita.

"Sure, I don't mind." Sabi ko habang ngumunguya.

Natawa naman ito sa asta ko at umupo din sa tapat.

"Sorry to disturb your meal. I'm River. You?" Ani nito at saka ngumiti my malapad.

Nilunok ko muna ang pagkain ko at saka uminom ng tea bago ngumiti pabalik dito.

"Summer." I offered my hand and he immediately took it and shook my hands.

"You live here? It looks like you're here just to roam around." Puna ko dito at saka inubos na ang pagkain ko.

He swallowed his food and wiped his mouth before answering my question.

"Yes. This is my hometown. I'm British basically." He answered me with a smile and sipped on his soda.

"Oh! That's good to hear! Looks like I'll be having my instant tour guide huh?" I teased him and drank my milk tea.

He laughed at me and nod his head repeatedly. "Sure i don't mind. I just have to get your number so we can set the date."

I scratched my temple and smiled awkwardly. "I'm with my Philippine sim card. International calls are luxurious." Biro ko pa dito.

Juice ko! konti nalang dudugo na ilong ko dito. Buti nalang may reserved akong mga English sentences sa utak ko!

Ng mapansin kong medyo nalalim na ang hapon, nagpasya na akong magpaalam at hingin ang number nito para matawagan ko sya kung sakaling my makabili na ako ng sim.

I shopped for a few more dresses, shorts, jeans, and tops before paying them all.

I thanked the cashier and decided to stop shopping.

Hindi ko mapigilang napatingin sa iba pang mga store dahil sa mga magagandang damit na naka-display doon.

Ngunit napatigil ako at napangiti ng makita ko ang isang pambatang costume na naka-display sa glass wall ng isang boutique.

It is a pink glittery fairy costume with a pink little fairy wings.

Lumapit ako dito at mas tiningnan mabuti.

"Would you like to buy it ma'am?"

Napatalon ako sa gulat ng magsalita ang saleslady na nasa gilid ko na agad namang humingi ng paumanhin.

"No it's fine maybe next time." Ngiti ko dito at saka tuluyang lumabas ng mall.

'If God permits us to have a daughter, I will surely buy one of those for her.'

Sabi ko sa isip ko at sabay bigay ng maluwag na ngiti sa kawalan.
