Found In The Present

Today was Thursday. A typical day just like any other one you had experienced. You woke up in the morning, had a delicious breakfast courtesy of your mom, went to school, and then hung out with your friends for hours on end before going home. Dropped off across the street from the academy, you watched your friend drive away. Something about the night felt different, no cars or people were going by and the world felt quieter. With your friend out of sight, you walked across the street to the academy, through the gate, and into the place where you lived. Shutting the door behind you, you looked around confused. The fire in the parlor was out as were many of the lights in the house. Typically a good amount of them would be on when Mom knew you would be coming home late. Maybe power outages were happening that you didn't hear about? Confused you called out,

"Mom? I'm home."

Typically, you would hear the cheery voice of your Mom call back to you happy to know that you were back safe and asking about how your day was, but instead all you heard was silence. Stepping further into the house you called out once more,

"Mom? Pogo? Reggie? Hello?"

There was still no response. Maybe they were all asleep? It wasn't too late, only around 9 pm, but maybe it was just one of those early to bed nights. Shrugging it off you started up the stairs to your room but as you were just about to turn left to head to it, you could see Pogo and your mom standing together at the edge of the hallway leading towards Reginald's room. Did they not hear you call? You walked over to them and said,

"Hey, guys I'm home. Did you not hear me calling?"

The two of them stopped looking down the hall towards Reginald's door and turn their attention towards you. A sorrowful expression was the only thing on both of their faces and with that, you knew something was different.

"What happened?" You asked

And it was at that moment you found out that at 7:02 pm on March 21st, 2019, Sir Reginald Hargreeves had died.

Being the world's most eccentric billionaire meant that the news of his passing spread like wildfire across newspapers and broadcast stations. Everyone, everywhere knew what had happened, including that of his five remaining children. Each of them learning what had happened in their own way.

Luther received the news from where he was stationed on the moon.

Diego saw the news on a TV inside a family's home after he stopped an invasion attempt.

Allison heard it from a paparazzi cameraman at the red carpet premiere of her movie Love On Loan 3.

Klaus saw it on a mini TV in the back of an ambulance after being revived from a drug overdose.

And Vanya learned about it while passing an electronics store after her violin practice.

Almost immediately, the funeral notices went out and announced the event to be March 24th. He was really dead. And with that fact, the five Hargreeves children came to realize that they would all have to see each other again. This would be the first time in about a decade that the living five children would be back together under the same roof. And for the first time in years, you would see all the remaining Hargreeves children again.

On the morning of the funeral, you got up as usual but put on an outfit of all black. You weren't hurt at the loss of a shitty man, but you knew Mom and Pogo were so you tried to best to be supportive. Walking downstairs to the parlor, the house was quiet, more than it had been in all your time living there. You could see through the entranceway of the parlor your mom sitting there in a black dress staring off into the fireplace as she had done many times over the last 3 days. You wondered what was going through her mind but every time you had tried to ask she would just smile and offer to bake cookies. Quietly, you walked over and sat in the chair across from her. She said nothing, just continued to stare into the flames. You waited for something to happen, anything, and then you heard the sound of the front door opening. Standing up you walked back towards the foyer to find Diego there.
