The Courtesy of Ignorance

Allow me the courtesy of ignorance,
To not know what I do not yet know.
For Knowledge is painful, it bites and it burns me,
On my fire it throws black snow.

Allow me the courtesy of ignorance,
To be blind to what I do not yet see.
For the joy in my eyes is extinguished at once,
When stone turns to glass before me.

Allow me the courtesy of ignorance,
To be deaf to what I do not yet hear.
For your bouncing jig is my slow lament,
My heart shrivels as it enters my ear.

Allow me the courtesy of ignorance,
Let me live in ignorant bliss.
For 'tis easier to ignore than to know, see, and hear
To know, see, and hear that I am not missed.
