When he went to look for Piper in the morning, Percy had felt obliged to do so; having stayed late the night before and not wanting to get out of bed. He woke up groggy, with puffy eyes and messy hair; but had the decency to at least wash his face and put deodorant on before visiting Piper. He tiptoed to Piper's room, so that the others wouldn't wake up; but Percy later realized that it was so that they wouldn't find out he was with her.

Bothered by this thought and what it meant, Percy hesitated in going, but knew it was the right thing to do. He quietly knocked on the door, not knowing if Piper was even awake at this hour, though he guessed she was; since she was always an early bird and a sucker for sunrises. When she opened the door, Percy was shocked at how beautiful she looked, the gentle glow of the sun making her eyes shimmer and pop even more than they already did, her braids like waterfalls of sweet chocolate dripping down to her toned shoulders. This all took him by surprise and therefore made him stutter out what he had rehearsed the night before. And even though it couldn't have been more awkward, Percy didn't feel like leaving; all until she started crying. His strong arms embraced her and he wanted to comfort her but as realization came tumbling into his brain, he also wanted to leave and never come back. Percy knew he didn't want to be with Annabeth for a while now, she had changed, shifted from the beautiful and kind blonde haired girl he loved to the jealous and power hungry one that Percy was dating now.

However, Percy never thought he'd like another girl anytime soon, much less Piper. But he couldn't like her, they barely talked at all. "I... I should go" he muttered, and left the room quickly, stumbling and falling down because of the old carpet's fold.

His mind debated with his heart, saying that he shouldn't visit Piper anymore, but deep down inside he knew this wasn't true.
