4: Pretty

One day someone will fall in love with the words I wrote
And not stand for the infatuation from how I look when I approach
It's easier to hide behind a beautifully expressed quote
Define how you think of me
Not be scared by some creep with a horn to beep
Calculating my glance at every van
Not trying to catch the driver's eye and formulate a quick escape plan
I'd rather click post and have the option to ignore
Forget about love
Respect is what I look for
It's not a compliment if it's unwanted
So please
Keep your eyes ahead
I'll choose if I want to be responsive

Author's Intention: This is a short poem where I intentionally tried to rhyme and I like how it came out. I have been wanting to write a poem about catcalling and I did (another one) but it needs editing. This is to the end of summer where I myself get catcalled a lot and it's not a compliment it is uncomfortable so any ladies that can relate, you are not alone. This was posted on my instagram first that I co-post with a friend of mine so if you want more poems ( a variety since some are my friend's) check it out and give it a follow. The feeling of always being on edge especially from cars is true, based on real experiences, unfortunately. Please stay respectful!
