Charli's POV

"come on, come on!" i yell at the cars in front of us.

"it's just L.A. traffic char. there isn't anything we can do," dixie says sympathetically.

i sigh and bury my face in my hands, fighting off tears. it's 3:26.

"she's probably already boarding the plane. or at least preparing to," i say, the stress showing in my voice.

"let's just hope there's a delay or something. we should be there in 10 minutes," dixie says, and a little hope makes me smile again.

"ok, ok, we've got this," i say and nod my head, trying to believe it.

we get to the airport and i'm opening my door before dixie even stopped the car. it's 3:33. dixie was speeding.

"woah please don't hurt yourself. now is not the time," dixie says, but she's also rushing.

we run to the doors of the airport. i realize we'll probably have to go through security.

"shit shit!" i say. luckily, the lines weren't too long and we got through in three minutes. it's 3:36. we find a screen that tells us astra's flight is boarding and the gate it's at.

we take off into a sprint.

after a few minutes we have to stop to breathe. it's 3:39. "we have to keep going."

and so we turn a corner and there i see her. walking into the plane.

"wait!" i yell, but she doesn't hear me.

i turn around to dixie, looking a little scary. my hair was a mess, i'm in pajamas, i'm not wearing any makeup and i have tears in my eyes.

but she also looks like she wants to cry.

we hug for a while before making our way back to the car.

"we were so close," dixie says.

i nod, but i feel like sobbing. "she thinks i hate her."

"you can always text her or facetime her."

i shake my head. it won't be the same.

Astra's POV

"flight XXX to New York is now boarding," i hear over the loud speakers. i wasn't in first class, and i wasn't elderly or a veteran, so i was going to have to wait my turn.

10 minutes go by and i have this pit in my stomach. i know what i had been hoping for, but it's probably not going to happen.

"any minors flying without an adult are up next," the flight attendant from behind the desk says. there's only one other, so i move slowly letting him go first.

i keep scanning all around me, praying to see her. but i don't.

i look at my phone. it's 3:39.

i sigh and give the flight attendant my ticket. i take one last look around and take a few steps forward. i thought i heard a "wait!" but i was probably just imagining it. and then i go find my seat.
